Saving the game in survival mode
I'd appreciate a little clarification here because I'm a little confused as to how saving works in survival.

I get that the only way to save the game is by sleeping in a bed. However, I noticed that it only autosaves when doing so, and whenever I attempt to load my saved games I only see the last three autosaves it made at times when I slept.

Does this mean you can only have 3 save files in survival mode or am I missing something?

yes, good old frogger style three lives kind of thing. You could always back them up externally, as a fail safe or whatever.

Whenever you sleep your game saves.
The minimum of 1 hour of sleep is enough to save.
You can save as often as you like, assuming you have something to sleep on.

*Dirty mattresses and sleeping bags don't allow for a full 8 hours, but clean mattresses do.

Little known fact, you can cancel out before actually sleeping and it still saves. The game treats it like 1 hour of sleep, so adrenaline will still go down, but no time actually passes.

I see, and yeah, I'll probably back a few up. I don't trust Bethesda games enough to get by on a measly three save slots.

I understand that. My question was are there only autosaves and only three autosave slots.

Well there is actually a hard save or a few, from your time in the house, and just before exiting the vault. But in over 120 hours, those are the only hard saves I have encountered.

Autosave is disabled in Survival Mode. All Saving methods are disabled, except when sleeping in Survival Mode.

*Yes, there are only 3 slots, using the sleep method. Although, you could probably just copy those saves elsewhere, so you will have older backups.

When you sleep, the game autosaves. It even says "autosaving" in the corner when you wake up.
