The minimum of 1 hour of sleep is enough to save.
You can save as often as you like, assuming you have something to sleep on.
*Dirty mattresses and sleeping bags don't allow for a full 8 hours, but clean mattresses do.
I see, and yeah, I'll probably back a few up. I don't trust Bethesda games enough to get by on a measly three save slots.
I understand that. My question was are there only autosaves and only three autosave slots.
Autosave is disabled in Survival Mode. All Saving methods are disabled, except when sleeping in Survival Mode.
*Yes, there are only 3 slots, using the sleep method. Although, you could probably just copy those saves elsewhere, so you will have older backups.
When you sleep, the game autosaves. It even says "autosaving" in the corner when you wake up.
