Underarmor that avoids looking FAT
So, I'm gearing up my settler guards with combat armor and metal helmets. Trouble is, the armor looks completely silly when worn over anything but Brotherhood Fatigues, Vault Suits, or Harnesses.

It's not as noticable on female settlers, because their armor models are smaller.... but on male models, wearing clothing under the armor makes the character look like Porkins from Episode 4.

Are there any decent-looking armor/clothing combinations you all have found for settlers?

I'm thinking of trying out the Armorsmith Expanded mod, but with the CK in beta, it might be better to wait.

SPOILER ALERT : If you don't want to know where you get the following goodies don't read any further...

The Railroad offers balistic enhancments to numerous clothing types. Army fatiques when enhanced has 110 b 110 e rating , and all armors fit over them [Army - Dirty Army fatiques].
Military Fatiques has a 5 pt advantage in energy when Upgraded with Balistic Weave. [my favorite] and fits well under all armors..

Many Clothing types will not allow armor over them. Put on armor and poof you in your undies. Useually anything with an armor value [stock clothing] will not fit armor over them. Road leathers look good under armor but can not be enhanced.

Military Fatiques will make you look fat with armor, if you look at the model you can see they screwed it up. Army Fatiques don't suffer this issue.

Yah. I know about the weave. It's very nice keeping stats on outfits. But I'm actually going for the armored look for settlers, rather than just trying to get raw stats. But there's not really a good looking combat armor/clothing combination. : /

As for Army Fatigues, they're not as bad as Military Fatigues... but it's still pretty noticable. Especially with Sturdy/Heavy variants.
I find if you use road leathers under combat armor it looks alright, even with the heavier combat armor

BOS Uniforms, Vault Suits, Synth Uniforms (hard to get), all harness variations, and Road leathers are all "Skinny".

I use 4 basic uniforms for my settler soldiers:

Black - Shadow Combat Armor over BOS grey uniform. Sturdy Arms, all else heavy.

Clean Synth - Clean Synth armor (can be gotten off Institute synths if you kill them, and about 11 -15 full suits from Battle for Bunker Hill), full heavy with white synth uniform.

Dirty White Knight - Polymer combat armor, dirty synth field helmet. Various BOS uniforms under.

Robot - Sturdy Robot Arms and Chest, light robot legs, Orange BOS uniform underneath (gives it gloves), Assaultron or Sentry Helm.

If you want to make the Eyebot helm look right, put combat fatigues under the robot armor and make all pieces heavy. This makes your settler about the same size as wearing power armor.

If you have pickpocket 4, you can farm the lost BOS officer up north for his black BOS Officer uniform. Simply pick all his armor, leave and come back, and it refreshes. Skinny, all black, with gloves and boots - goes with everything.

I am having the same problem here. I am trying to do a survivor look with decent stats and light leather for more carry weight all over and the only thing I can see is the blue vault suit until I get the ballistic weave.

I agree that most of the armor options available are just terrible.

I'd like to direct everyone's attention to this nexus mod page https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25078?tab=description and if you don't trust the link, the name of the mod is Under Armor Scalling Removed. The mod does cause some minor clipping between some over-armors and clothing, but it will definitely fix the bulky look of over-armors. In my opinion, it's a huge visual improvement so please check it out and endorse if it satisfies your need for non-bulky armor.

Btw, I'm aware no one has posted on this forum in like a year, but this page is the first thing that popped up when I was searching for a solution to this issue. Hopefully, people in the same situation that I was in will come across this forum and find my solution.

Well, too bad that the mod isn't working in my case. It should have fixed the problem according to the description... but it didn't.

...and I'll necro it again, because it's pertinent information. In regards to the case mentioned above, the mod SHOULD work just fine, but you need to pay attention to whether or not you have any other mods that load after it that might change the same records. In this case a good culprit could be Armorsmith Extended, which edits the Armor Addon record for pretty much every armor in the game. If it loads after the remove armor scaling mod, it simply removes the changes made by it, thus armor scaling is still present.

No screens of male characters, just showing females that didn't even need a fix.

That mod, I think it's armoursmith or something like that allows you to wear the armour pieces on top of clothing that might not let you otherwise. Also I think the same mod allows you to recolour the items, so if you really wanted you could choose the invisible option, but that's a lot of pieces to manually adjust. I'm too lazy to give everyone tuxedos let alone add one of every armour piece this time around. Not like they'll need it.
