This wasn't a normal "defend the settlement from a handful if raiders" quest though. I actually went and talked to Ronnie and was told to build defences, then as the attack started it gave me updates (10%, 20%, etc.). It was the exact same quest as the one you do if you side with the minutemen in the main story.
I tested it a bit and the ratio of Castle defends to generic settlement quests was on adverage 1:10
Statisticallt speaking, the more settlements you have, the more will come under attack.
Late game when you ahve every settlement you can expect to have an attack every day at least once, even if you have everything fortified.
Sounds to me like a mixture of bad luck and not enough defense?
and i freshly rebuilt my farmbots after last attack :(
and i just now found out that this is a radiant quest and not part of main storyline
Use the Cages acquired from Wasteland Workshop, Put Gunner, Raider and Super Mutant cages down.
Be warned, it may trigger extremely often in this case.
There are two types of this quest. One is story, and another Radiant. The Radiant version only happens after you beat the game.
