Ok I did this and it put me like 200 feet in the air above Diamond City. Right about above the newspaper building. But he was no where in sight.
I would think then that after Confidence Man - the only quest Travis is involved with - he's no longer required physically in the game - although you will always hear him over the radio.
I haven't gone looking for him in my game since Confidence Man so can't confirm, but that's probably why he's no longer there. He's achieved his new "confident" persona and that's his tale done as far as the developers are concerned.
But I might be wrong. I'll do what you did when I next play and see what happens.
I did, he's not there. It's not like a big deal, but it still seems odd.
I always like to follow up with people after quests. Especially when they've got distance to travel.
