POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD What faction would Frank Castle/The Punisher choose if he was the Sole Survivor?
Just a question for the lols.
So I'm doing a Punisher playthrough and I've come at a bit of a crossroads between choosing the factions. Knowing the backstory of Frank Castle, his family was murdered (just like the Sole Survivor's wife) and decided to avenge his family by killing the murderers (Kellogg in this case). But what if Frank Castle learns that one of his family members (his son) is actually the very leader of the faction The Institute that contributed to the murder of his wife? Would he join him instead, or destroy the very faction that his son leads and kills him in the process out of blind vengeance? Which one do you think would be the most immersive and likely choice The Punisher would make?

He'd put a bullet in his son's head, then mourn in his own way. The Punisher has completely given himself over to the cause of 'justice', and what the Institute is doing goes against many of his principles.

Of the default factions he'd be with the Minutemen, as boring as that sounds. However, the BoS is a possability due to his militaristic nature and the order they will instill (for some that order will be enforced at gunpoint of course, but the punisher has no problems with that).

Frank Castle's only drive was the brutal death of his family, after they were dead he became the punisher and did what the superheros failed to do, whilst seeking justice on criminals in his own way.
Considering Shaun wouldn't be Shaun anymore, he'd probably put him down, possibly be on his own or join The Minutemen or work with The Brotherhood of Steel.

He'd definitely work with the Minutemen, but for all his brutality the Punisher is a very disciplined and precise killer - he would never work with the Institute because they clearly cause the death of innocents, but he wouldn't work for the BoS either because he's also intolerant about innocent deaths as "acceptable" collateral damage.

He'd likely shoot Father, Ayo, whoever drafted the plan to replace Roger Warwick, and all of the Coursers before giving the rest of the Institute leadership a very stern warning that he won't be so nice the next time, then tell the BoS that the situation is resolved and they can stand down; if Maxson refuses to see reason then it won't end wall for most of the BoS as well.

I just kill them all. I don't rescue the MM, I slaughter the RR, the BOS and the Institute. I don't go the Frank Castle route, I go the Krombopoulis Michael route "I just like killing things!"

Frank Castle has a zero tolerance level when it comes to certain crimes, with murder of the innocents being rather high on that list. He also doesn't play well with others, and at best he uses people to further his own goals until they either disappoint him (and they part ways) or they betray him (in which case he kills them).

To that end, he might briefly ally with a group like the Minutemen or the Brotherhood, but only so far as it would further his own goals. Of course, his methedology would probably be far too brutal for the Minutemen (torture, rampant slaughter of "the enemy" with no quarter offered) in the long run, but they'd be a decent fit in the short term. The real problem would be that Frank is far more interested in obliterating the "enemy", and almost entirely uninterested in building or maintaining settlements (outside of killing the people who might threaten them).

Likewise, a long-term relationship with the Brotherhood would probably be impossible, because he simply wouldn't care about their ideals when it comes to capturing and preserving technology. He would only remain with them for as long as they showed willingness to assist in achieving his own goals, and he moment they balked he would leave. If they tried to stop him, then violence would almost certainly ensue.

He would likely see the Railroad as a waste of time, treating them in much the same way as he would treat any of the hundreds of naive super-heroes that he's had to deal with in the comics.

He would absolutely kill Shaun and wipe out the majority of the Institute, given the crimes that they've commited against both him and the Commonwealth.
