Scavenging station =/= scrap station ?
Sorry if it has been asked before. But what does each station exacly do?

I only find mixed answers where both roles aren't explained.

Thanks in advance!

They find items to scrap and place them into the workshop. On rare occasions they even find a few caps.

Scavenging stations which are built in the crafting menu are only effective if a settler is assigned to the scavening station. A settler assigned to a scavenging station collects two random junk items per day. Only one settler can be assigned to each scavenging station. You can however have multiple scavenging stations in a settlement. But, each scavenging station must have it's own settler assigned - no settler can work two scavenging stations at the same time.
It is important to remember that scavenger stations can be damaged in an attack and if damaged they will not function properly until repaired.

When you say scrap stations I am quessing that you are talking about the scrapping operation involved in using the red workshop station. Junk items are broken down into their base componets, e.g., aluminum, circuitry, crystal, oil, steel, etc., by the workbench when you make an item at any crafting station (armor, weapon, chemistry, cooking) and you don't have sufficient quanity of the base components to make that item. If a piece of junk in the workbench can provide the needed base components that piece of junk will be "scrapped" by the workbench to provide that base component.

In summary, in simple terms:
Scavenging station = source of junk
"Scrap station" = source of base components
