It's up to you. The game let's you decide what order your game can be played.

Can i easily play the mainstroy first (complete it) and play the DLCs after ending FO4 ? Or do i have to start a new game to get into it after completing the game?

Yes, the DLC are mostly independant of the main story, though there is some overflow in Far Harbour, based on your chosen faction...

IIRC Far Harbour does require that you reach a certain point (fairly early) in the main story before it triggers, but otherwise, they can be done at any time, provided you've reached the minimum level requirement...

I would do dlc then main story. Thats what im doing now
Also stuff like Far Harbor has extra small missions for the factions. Unsure about nuka world but there is a chance. So getting to experience it all is nice and then finish the story to cap off the game

Enemies scale with your level, so it doesn't matter really. Playing the main story first before the DLC won't make you strong enough that Far Harbor is too easy, as the enemies will get stronger with you.

Far Harbor scales much better than the main world, imho. I've done it at 30ish level and at 130ish and both playthroughs were exciting. I'd save it for after the main plot so it provides a solid challenge at a point the main map just doesn't.

I'd start (but not necessarily finish) Automatron rather early. It releases a new set of random encounters that do scale with the player VERY well, making the main map more interesting imho. Tricking out Ada was a lot of fun.

The main issue I have with Far Harbor is having to run back to the Commonwealth to defend settlements. I would imagine Nuka World will have the same dumbass problem. It might not sound liek much but when you play survival without fast travel it becomes a pain in the ass because you lose a day traveling back and forth.

I would honestly keep your number of settlements to a bare minium, this way when the seven day timers kick in after defending you can have a break.

If on survival I HIGHLY advise either never starting it or finishing it before going to Far Harbor. The settlement attacks from robots can occurs almost daily and they ignore the seven day timer. I have had three settlements attacked in the same day and the same settlement attacked three days in a row. Bad luck on the raid rolls I guess. It would really suck to be half way back or jsut get back and have another robot attack. Once you finish the DLC quest line for Automatron the settlement attacks stop (least I never seen one after.)

There is nothing worse than being in the middle of doing stuff in Far Harbor and having to travel back to defend. Then be back a day or so and have to run back again, etc. It makes playing the Far Harbor content just interupted too much. If settlements had better than a 50% chance of scuessfully defending then that would have helped.

You don't have to defend settlements. Unless you're modded, settlers can't die and structures can't permanently be destroyed. Worst case scenario is if you go there very soon after you might find some damaged crops and turrets, maybe a gen or purifier damaged. As long as you have a decent supply network, stocks of oil, circuits etc and some scavengers your empire will heal all its damage on its own over time. All you've missed out on is some production.

because it uses standard the last setting. I mean if you are on very hard the new game automatically starts also on very hard. you can change it in the game menu.

Difficulty is adjusted in the Settings menu under Gameplay. It's at the top of the list there. Note that you will NOT be able to turn your Diff back to any other setting if you switch to Survival and you will get a warning notice to this effect.

I suggest interlacing the two. For example: Automitron requires that you be level 15 and then it can start any time after that. Well...you need to play the core game to get that far anyway and nothing says you HAVE to start it right when it becomes available so why worry?

Far Harbor begins after you go to Diamond City and many players don't exactly race to get there either.

Vault 88 is in the southern part of the map...a hazardous area. You may not want to just go busting down there anyway and besides...there's plenty of fight when you get there.

None of us knows how Nukaworld will start so I suggest that you play the game naturally, taking the DLC as it becomes convenient or when you start to feel bored with the other parts of the game.

You do not even need to do that anymore. My last game the Far From Home started before I even rescued Nick. Not sure if it was becaus eI got clos eot the boat launch or because one of the BOS radiants sent me to Far Harbor.

I can just ignore them really? Thousands of hours of game play and I never figured out I could jsut ignore defending. Thanks.

I prefer my settlements intact and producing.

If you can handle the guilt, then yeah you definitely can. I won't lose any sleep if my settlements get attacked cause they're filled with ungrateful little ♥♥♥♥♥
