Saw Far Harbor DLC had a lovecraftian tag
Is the tag accurate?

to a point, yes. Dunwich Borers is more so directly, but the atmosphere in FH is definitely Lovecraftian.

Not so much, just generally really effin' creepy with some legit "holy crap!" moments, eery scenes, 'humanity lost', hallucinations, slightly mental people happily living in what should be lethal conditions, etc.etc.

EDIT: And quite a lot of taking 'have your neighbor over for dinner' literally.

So no doomsday cults and portals to realms beyond?

doomsday cults, you get. May even help them along if you so wish.

If you're big on the horror scene you'll probably love it when a certain character attempts to buy from you the rights to eat everyone you send to that location...

No.

Darker atmosphere does not always mean lovecraft

aw man :( I was hoping for a good Lovecraftian game. Too often they either fail miserably, go to development hell, or lose funding before work even starts

It's sad there isn't any good Lovecraftian horror games. The best is Call of Cthulhu, and that looks just a little better then the original Doom. Point lookout for Fallout 3 had that feeling. While the setting of Far Harbor is the similar, you have creepy mutant monsters the furthest this goes into the occult is a crazy radiation cult worshiping radioactive fog.

I did see some weird ♥♥♥♥ in the Far Harbor trailer. Looked like Deep Ones

There are a couple of missions that are heavily lovecraft-themed, but ultimately don't fit the atmosphere unless they're basically the first quests you do. When you've waded through camps full of nuke-toting super mutants and gone toe-to-toe with hordes of ghouls topped off with radiation nova glowing ones, the "ooh spooky monster" thing doesn't really phase you much.

Anyone that thinks that farharbor is gonna be 100% lovecraftian then you are pretty dim not gonna lie. It's very inspired by lovecraftian settings and it as a tone like it, but not like there is gonna be cthulu-like creature towering over the island and consuming the inhabitants in 1000's of years of darkness ffs. It is still very dark and atmospheric and very creepy to go to. Fallout 4 world feels grounded while farharbor feels much less slow even in power armor there is a tone that can give you slight chills. Not to mention the children of atom do play up really well and the bostonian harbor men also have a nice touch.

Yea those are either Gulpers or if it had the lantern in its head, an Angler. But most all of Fallout aquatic mutants are base off of Lovecraftian creatures. If they added the Lakelurks in, those are identical to deep ones, but the Mirelurk king has taken that appearance, and I've only seen one so far in Far Harbor. Other Mirelurks are giant crabs that take a more upright stance, and a queen is the big ones you see alot as bosses.

Fog Crawlers.

And speaking of giant crabs, you'll want to be *really* careful around wrecked vans....
