Vault Dwellers won't equip PipBoys?
Does anybody have an idea why the Settlers in my Vault 88 won't equip PipBoys if I give them one? The first guy, Clem, equipped his just fine, but if I give one to anybody else who arrives in the vault, nobody else will equip them. You can get 10 of them from the storage crate, so it seems to me that you should be able to give them to more than one person, but nobody else will put theirs on. I use the Better Settlers, and Don't Call Me Settler, but I'm not sure how either of these mods could impact characters ability to equip PipBoys.

Those in the storage crates are hit and miss, some of them work and some don't. To be safe, ditch all of them and ignore them when they respawn, and pick your pop-boys from those three pip-boy crates (one beside the Vault-Tec crate, and two beneath the table straight ahead when you walk in across the ramp). The Pip-Boy crates aren't containers, but are scripted to add a Pip-Boy to your inventory if you activate them (the script respawns after a while so it is an endless supply. Those Pip-Boys always work (apart from on certain followers such as Curie, which is unfortunate).

Those ones are working, thank you! Hopefully either Bethesda or the unofficial patch can fix the ones from the storage chest, but the ones from the Pip-Boy crates all equipped. Now to wait for them to respawn so I can hand out more. -_-

hmm this is interesting, I came across that bug too, but the only thing i did to fix it was collect all my pipboys (over 15 at that time.) and then i just plopped all of them into the person's inventory, i noticed more then 1 would sometimes subtract from the total of pipboys but after that it seemed to work just fine.

That explains why I can give a stack of pipboys to a settler and they equip one and the rest disappear. The oens that do not disappear are the ones form those crates. Thanks.

Could be due to an existing bug I experienced/highlighted before. You'd equip longjohns on a settler and it would vanish, adding more only repeats the cycle and the same bug occurs with pitboys.

Haven't noticed this on any other items bar those two. Noted that longjohns bug was fixed as of 1.7.9.0 so that puts it down to perhaps an animation bug. Occurs on all settlers I equip a pitboy on so will have to try Miro's suggestion in dumping them all on one settler.

The one thing I have noticed in every single link with regard to this issue, nobody ever considered that the settler is a synth. I had figured this was the issue the first time I noticed one settler did not equip the Pip Boy. Once you give a settler a Pip Boy, it disappears from their inventory and is automatically equipped.

At least there's one way of deciphering who is legit and who isn't.

I was able to make them work by dropping all of the Pip-boys in my inventory on the ground and picking them back up.

Objects in the game world are different than objects in containers (your inventory is a container) and dropping/picking them up can make them lose weird values.

You SEE? THIS is the kind of thing that makes me lose sleep at night! I might have Synths INSIDE my Vault? I think the Devs watched the latest Battlestar Galactica one time too many!

Just curious, is there any reason to equip settlers with Pip Boys? Other than they look cool? What do they do with them?
