Limited range on Vault Tec generators? (Resolved)
So, after further experimentation, I figured out what the issue was...

Ok, so I figured out what the issue was...

Because I had not used any atrium prefabs (they simply didn't work within my desired atrium layout), and had been using only the lower atrium sections (along with placing roof tiles under them, via creative snapping), power was not actually flowing between levels as it otherwise should have...

I resolved the issue by placing wall segments on the outside of my vault atrium area, before connecting these outer wall segments via a conduit and wire...

Original post :

So, I'm in the process of building Vault 88... I have the overall shape of my atrium layed out and was in the process of creating a room on the southern side (near the caved-in train tunnels) to act as hydroponics...

Everything was coming together nicely until I tried to place ceiling lights... Despite having 3 conduits spaced around the room (it is quite large) only those lights closest to the generator, that comes standard as part of the command center, are lighting up...

Can anyone confirm if there is a maximum radius on power being sent through Vault segments, or is there some other limitation, such as requiring 1 power per Vault segment connected, etc?

Sometimes the conduits you place on the walls need to be resnapped for them to work.

i grabbed a conduit radius mod from nexus site makes it alot better, and maybe a light radius mod too to avoid having lights on every ceiling block, worst part about the vault is that without a mod to expand your building limit you really cant build anything worthwhile.

You can expand the building limit by dropping and storing guns and not use a mod. The problem is the vault room pieces eat a lot of budget.

Think I might have tried this already, but will give it another shot...

So there's no range limit that you're aware of?

Just your normal cell distance like on Spectacle Island. Even then I am not sure it would apply to an inside cell. Have not got around to testing it wiht a light at like UP or Roxbury exit with wires stratching back to main room.

I have had problems wiht conduits not registering at all, and liek someoen else said the range on them sucks.

just curious whats the problem with using a mod for it?

Some people like me dont use mods.

been using mods since launch, really cant see myself not using mods in a beth game, got a nice collection so far with 110+ mods running stable with no crashes at all, whats the reason for not using mods?

Just dont bother with them. Once I get bored I will play around with mods.

Haven't had any issues on conduit range so far, mind you I've only otherwise placed lighting in the initial 3 living quarters I built, which arent all that large anyway...

At 4x2(+1) the hydroponics area is the first largish room I've tried to light up, since the atrium itself is little more than a skeleton still, that I'm presently filling in...

My vault is huge, i basically filled the whole main room, all five stories, lol

I started by pre-planning my vault by figuring out the buildable squares.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1h6pvphpCnFwcyqEr8aOxKRuU2h2Ncj1bY5eWFIO54z4/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=1270188855

However I ended up changing from that once I got going but it gave me a clearer picute of stacking the levels so they interlocked and such.

The problem I ran into was constantly running out of bugest. I would drop a dozen guns and then be only able to build maybe 6 room pieces. That and the fact I ate through like 3000 rubber before the shipments were added, lol.

I have not even gotten to the point of decorating or lighting my vault. Of course I got side tracked with my arena on Spectacle island.

That is only maybe 1/3 of it, the height blocks out the stuff on the back side and the stuff behind me in the screenshot. Those arent cement foundations, but walls and floors for the levels and rooms under it.

Your arena looks awesome...

I pretty much started by planning out the shape and height (like you, all 5 floors in the end) of my atrium, along with a fully working fountain in the center (thanks to mods) that is the focal point within the atrium... Then I just went about figuring out roughly where I wanted different rooms to go and how to best build up around the outside of the angled atrium roof...

I didnt use an angled atrium ceiling. I think my atrium is like 5Wx6Lx5H and I did a walkway around the edge for each level and had a stairwell off the walkway. I keep meaning to plot what I actually built to the spreadheet but never get around to it. I want to plot it to help give people a better idea of how to plan their vault and make the pieces easier.

I kinda went for the atrium being a courtyard sorta thing wiht all the shops and such connected to it, almost like a mall.

I had been plannign this area for a couple weeks now making notes of what I wanted in it. That arena ate the entire budget for spectale island plus about 100 guns dropped so far. That is how much you cant see. I think I ate up like 4k concrete and 6k steel. Running all the wiring for the switches in the control booth was kinda a pain. I have a swithc for the red doors, the doors, and the guns all on seperate switches. I will probbaly take a bunch of screen shots in a few days when I finish it up and populate it.

Bridges are what destroys the power, atleast for me. Removing all bridges and used any other vault floors fixed it.

I have power from 1 generator throgh most of my vault. The building limit hit me tho, so couldn't floor through it all.

one conduit, one hanging bulb, two original industrial wall lights

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=740314463
three conduits, scads of 'high tec' ceiling lights, strategic VT wall lights.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=738999274
high-tec ceiling lights and single spots. I will be moving the wire and connectors to the outside of the atrium ceiling at some point.

All of this is powered from the initial VT generator in the security room, and a super-reactor parked in the lowest NE (?) section next to one of the dugout tunnels, connected purely with atrium floors and stairs.
