Fallout 4 crashes to Desktop after minutes of gameplay
Hey everybody,

I used to be able to play Fallout 4 without any issues, but recently without any errors, Fallout 4 would just shut itself off and I'd be returned to the Desktop.

i'm running windows 10 64 bit home premium, Intel I7 4770-K 3,50 GHz, 16 GB's of RAM and a GTX 770 from NVidia.

(Note: Fallout 4 used to work perfectly on Windows 7. Should I roll back? I'm still in the 2 week limit)

My eventviewer shows nothing that would indicate why it crashed.

All my other games run fine, it's just fallout 4.

Solutions i've tried so far:

1: update to the latest graphic driver, no success
2: Run fallout 4 as beta (right click Fallout 4 - properties - betas - Opt in for most recent beta, no success
3: Run Fallout 4 in compatibility mode for Windows 7/8, no success.
4: Delete fallout4preff.ini and change the values to these values:
bMaximizeWindow=0
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=1080
iSize W=1920

no sucess

5: verify Integrity of game Cache. No success.

I've looked everywhere I could, but I cannot find a fix for this issue.
If there's anything I can do that could give you more information, I'll gladly do it.

Please help me.

C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 (delete Fallout4Prefs)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout 4 (again delete Fallout4Prefs)

And then verify your game cache files.

NOTE: ONLY DELETE THE INI FILES, NOTHING ELSE. Then verify your game cache files by right clicking fall out 4 in Steam and then -> properties -> Local files - verify Integrity of game Cache

Apparently it helped a lot of people who were experiencing the issue, also check if you have the latest graphic driver and update it (preferably download and install it manually)

Thank you very much for the tip, I deleted only "C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 (delete Fallout4Prefs)" as the other strip was different and there was no "Fallout 4\Fallout 4", then I verified the game cache files in Steam and now seems to work.

I hope this solution can be usefull to many.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but maybe you need to clean out the fans? Happens to me all the time. (I'm a slob) may just be overheating.

Fortunately I have pc case designed to keep all dust outside. Even so, I've opened up the case just to check and cleaned it with an air duster. Can't imagine it was the issue, as no dust was removed, since nothing was there.

Wow I just got wind of a new version and that my SE doesn't match... Silverlock isn't gonna have a new version for a couple days..and now I'm CTD,ing as soon as I move ..Thought it was me, but I guess this is a patch issue..

Bethesda evidently let it's security certification lapse and It's Down ..

"No Man's SKY" it can't get here fast enough!!

When did your start? Recently? Did you install windows 10 as well or change anything at all?

I'm not sure what you just said......This is an issue with the latest Fallout 4 update/patch?
Nubmuffin Aug 5, 2016 @ 8:47pm
so, I removed all mods that were still installed on the game prior to the windows 10 update, ran a verify local files via steam and now the game runs flawless. I guess one of the mods was fudging with the game. I'm completely at a loss which mod could have caused it and frankly I don't give a damn. The game works and I'm happy.

I'll keep on gaming!

For me it was the unofficial FO4 patch.

So, I alt-tabbed out of the game, and now it just crashes to desktop. No mods, no DLC, no nothing...

CTD before title (with/out mods/dlc)
