(SOLVED) Massive FPS drop and breaking texture bug/glitch in Boston
Hey guys first time really posting for help in a forum so be easy on me -

I recently started donwloading mods via nexus mod manager for Fallout 4. I am totaly hooked and am back to enjoying the game in a whole different experience!

Im playing on my 9 month old PC which has decent specs -

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

8.1 GB of RAM

Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 (build 10240), 64-bit

I am running a load of mods (around 50+) and am experiencing slight problems with textures. Looking on the link provided below you can see when I enter Boston in particular the textures of the buildings start to glitch/overlap? Im not 100% sure what the correct termonology would be to describe it but as i pivot/move my character the move also and sort of overlap each other as i previously said.

I do run texture overhaul mods and they could be overlapping and causing problems. The texture mods i use for the environment are -

A little bit of green

and

(All installments of) GraFix texture overhaul

however i did disable three other texture mods by other authors called:

Vivid - Landscapes
Vivid - Rocks
Vivid - Trees

From lack of experience i am unsure if just disabling the mod in nexus removes it from the game all together? but i dont see how rocks trees and a landscape texture overhaul could cause such problem in a built up city like boston.

Outside of boston im hitting 60fps but when i look in certain directions i drop to 45 fps.

i disabled all the mods and still have the problem. however i remember before installing any mods hitting 50 fps in boston on the settings i am currently running. This is game breaking for me as dropping to such low frame rates (10-20fps) is making a large portion of the game currently impossible to play.

I am starting to consider uninstalling the game and completely deleting all files and starting a fresh however i dont want to do that as i'd loose my save that ive put many hours into.

Any information needed let me know and i will provide. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks all!

Try messing with your video settings. maybe drop the resolution or some other settings like blur effect or godrays. Also try and validate the game in your game properties in steam. It does sound like maybe you are just using to much v-ram space with all these retexture mods; especially if they are 4k. good luck.

Hi thanks for replying so quickly! could you elaborate on 'blur effect'? Im not sure what that is or are you relating to motion blur? I have disabled god rays via the fallout ini's. I am currently validating my files as we speak. I dont believe i am using any 4k textures except for a pip boy one. But i will double check! thank you.

Thanks! ill get on it an dwill update you shortly.
By the way my resolution is set at 1842x1036
No problem.

Yes i meant motion blur. Maybe try messing with your Anti Aliasing? I'd drop the 4k pipboy mod as well; if you're still having issues. here's a couple of performance mods from the nexus if you want to try and make your game look pretty again. Shadow Boost: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1822/? Stuttering and Memory patch: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/332/? You'll probably want to watch some install videos on those mods; they're a bit more complicated to install. Also if you're running an enb; that can strain the video performance as well.
Remember it's all about trial and error with mods. install one at a time during a gaming session; if your game runs smooth... throw in some more mods till it breaks.

Problem still persists - http://imgur.com/a/9Gl2k

When i look in a certain direction all hell breaks loose and im getting around 10 fps - when i look in the opposite it goes back to 40-45fps
what weather mod are you using? maybe dump that mod as well. Try true storms by fading signal; his mod runs pretty light on the perfomance. If you haven't; update your videocard drivers. Try runing the game with zero mods and see if this persist.

I am running Vivid weathers.

Videocard has no updates.

Will try zero mods.

Just disabled all mods and instead of getting 14 FPS im now getting 34fps in the same area, doesnt go lower than 34...guess now its trial and error to see whats kicking this fuss off!
I am fine with 34fps, as long as it doesnt drop below 25...so its trial and error from now on. Still unsure what was causing that texture glitch though.
All GraFix Texture Overhaul mods, A Little touch of Green, Vivid Waters, and Vivid Textures are working fine with an FPS increase to 45 FPS
My sucsipicons are pointing toward the fact that using nexus AND bethesda.net at the same time could be causing the problem...
Your in game shadow settings also taxes your video card, so if your running shadows on ultra, bring it down a notch. Also the object distance is hard on your card as well. Just need to find the right balance for your visuals and FPS to work out proper. I ended up slightly bringing down some settings for a performance boost. I'm running it at 1080p on a gtx 960 settings on high and getting a decent 50 - 55 FPS with that enb boost mod. (im not using any texture mods; just scripting/armor/weapons/faction/radio mods, oh, and some quest mods).

I ususally tend to run games without the vsync on as well; you'll get a boost from that. also take off the steam overlay option, in your library settings.

I'm using both nexus and bethesda; they are both working ok for me. The only diffrence is I use Fallout Mod Manager instead of the NMM. Also check out LOOT; it's a mod load order tool.

I'm not saying my game is running flawlessly; because of constant modding. The frames per second seem to be running fine. I've had mods that almost crash my game because of somthing they did not edit right when making their mod. So it's vital to make a clean save then try one mod at a time.
