Gatling Laser BS
Is there any way of stopping the laser from grabbing a full fusion core while leaving half empty ones? I've got 12 cores now that are only half full and no I am not reloading it to swap cores. It's doing it automatically when I put the wweapon away to hack a computer or unlock a door.

I think the only way is to use a mod. There's one that lets you turn a fusion core into 500 "gatling fusion core", which works just like fusion cells for laser rifles.

It's a bit dated and you have to manually pick the 500 or 1000 variety (to reflect the nuclear physicist perk), but judging from the forum posts it seems like it still works. I'd suggest using a different save and testing it out for a bit though.

actually, theres another mod that corrects this problem.

see, here is the problem. a fusion core provides a base of 500 ammo for the gatling gun. however, every perk you pick up, every bobblehead, every skill you unlock, dont affect this amount for a bugged reason. so even though a maxed out fusion core can provide around 670 ammo for the gatling laser, it poops out at 500, and you get an 11% power core in return.

im not sure, but i think it was a fairly recent mod that changes this so you use the actual full amount.

here it is.

ahh, he explains it nicely in the mod discription. the weapon is set at 500 ammo. any perks or skills that goes over that 500 isnt accounted in the weapons 'ammo magazine'. and since there is no in-game upgrade to make the mag bigger, it gets stuck at 500. this mod changes the magazine size to 2000, so you always use the full capacity of the fusion core.

I'm afraid you misunderstood the OP, he's not complaining about it unloading cores after 500 shots despite having perks that should boost it above that, he's complaining that every time he puts the gatling laser away it automatically reloads a full core and puts a used core in his inventory.

The author of the mod you linked even explains why it's not possible to fix this:
Actually its not. It's because of the weapon scripts in Fallout 4 that make weapons start with their default value or closest to it depending on your inventory. Standard weapons start out with full clips, Laser Muskets start out with a clip of 0 (which I find annoying), and Gatling Lasers start out with the fullest Fusion Core. It's just a part of the reloading mechanics.
