Vault 88 rooms won't connect?
Hi there,

I don't know if this is a common question, i haven't seen it though.
I wanted to build the vault 88, i made the hallway, and wanted to make a room, just a living quarter.
Buuut i don't know how to make it, the room doesn't connect to the hallway, also not to the doorway.

I am sure i am doing something wrong, please tell me what :)

Thanks in advance!

It is a nightmare trying to learn how to do it.
I have not spent much time building a vault yet, but from what i have discovered so far.

Go to the end off the hallway you have built, place a doorway then put a door in.
And then you should be able to start building a room.
Hope this helps, as i said i havnt fully grasped it my self.

Dont put a Door in, otherways the doorway will not connect. Build only Doorway and after that you will connect a doorway from the room what you want to the other side. and after that you can place the door. ;-) You can different rooms only connect with doorways.

Sorry about my english, isn't my native language. ;-)

You can look at my video. Maybe you will see the princip how it works. :-)

Also there is a special hallway peice that conects the hallway to the door and to the doulbe wide hallways. You can not conect a regular hallway peice to the atrium or double wides.

last night I had trouble connecting one area of rooms, I ended up disabling the mod Place Everywhere by TheLich[www.nexusmods.com] which uses keyboard key hotkeys and if you press the wrong F1 throw F7 it well shut off features of the mod making it impossible to snap, after disabling and launching my game and saving and exiting and then re-activating Place Everywhere I was able to snap rooms together again

I fell so stupid, i have figured it out by myself, didn't know you needed doorways to kinda connect rooms, thanks for the many replies!

You guys need to simplify your advice :p

You need to build halls first. Rooms connect to hall when you connect the two door pieces. As in hallway w/door, 4 way w/doors and the room section with a door.

Get that concept and down and it gets MUCH easier.

The hard part in building a vault is the fact you need to build the halls first. As in when you want to do a second story it aint a matter of just throwing pieces up there liek you are used to doing. You gotta go build the hallsways on the second floor.

Since the halls have to be built first it takes a lot of preplanning to build a big vault.

Thanks for the good advice, helped a lot. It is rather tricky to build a vault... I feel they could have made it a bit more intuitive, but maybe it's just me not getting the hang of it yet, heh.

Well its half having to chase thigns through the menu and half preplanning.

Think about what I said for a two story building.

The old way thrown down foundation, walls, floor/ceiling, walls, roof, done.

The vault way, hall ways, stairs, hallways, rooms, and rooms. It is going to take longer for a vault.

The old way if you make a mistake it is fairly easy to fix by sliding everything onw way or another, not the case with a vault.

Its really a pain when you accidently scrap a two story peice of prefab. You have to store anything that went into that space so its completely clear or it will not click. Before it was just replace the missing wall.

Yeah there is a build order to some things. Like if you want glass between your windows you need to place the hallway window first, then the glass, then the room window piece.

The doorway endcaps to halls are the same way.

Gonna chime in here since I just encountered this problem. Connect a doorway endcap in the Utility section to your 3 way (or however many) hall on the inside where you want your new room, then try to connect your new room's doorway to that. Worked for me. Cheers

How do you place like the living quarer or nursery pieces on a second floor I managed to build a scecond florr but all I can lay down is the ceiling/floor hybrid floor thing. I wanted to use that quarter prefab pieces on a 2nd floor how do I do that? What has to go underneath ist?

You have to build a stairwell or something to create halls for the second floor then repeat connecting with doors. You cannot just stack on onto the other.

Have not taken another screenshot once I finished the fifth floor.
