how does valentine know about dogmeat?

i always wondered, how does valentine knows dogmeat? you resque him from the vault, you discuss your infant son's kidnapping, search through kellog's house, and suddenly valentine suggests to use dogmeat, a dog he never met before, to help.

Valentine's been around the block a few times, in the Commonwealth a dog as intelligent as Dogmeat wouldn't go unnoticed.

Dogmeat has worked with Valentine before. If you listen closely to what Valentine says when you're at Kellogg's house, you'll hear him say as much.
And Nick was only in that vault for a few weeks after Skinny caught him snooping around.

How does the main character knows the name of the child who greet you and offers
you a tour on vault 81?

An earlier idea was that the Survivor would bump into Dogmeat in the begnning of the game, and never be without him.

There's a mod that enables to have a companion + Dogmeat, and Valentine often comments on Dogmeats status, if he's hurt etc.

I guess at that point in the game, it was assumed you'd have Dogmeat with you anyway.

Heard about that! Also other npc's make comments about dogmeat and valentine when you have them as companions

if you look at dogmeats files he is not considered in the follower faction but his own, so from the looks of it he was always going to be with the player but for some reasion beth cut that and made him like a normal follower
