Just me or is Vault 88 pathing terrible?
Since I started the Vault DLC quest and have filled up most of the main cave chamber with a large atrium and various hallways and rooms, settler pathfinding seems to get worse and worse. Every settler has a job but they often struggle finding their way to it despite the fact that it's in the same room and when they're going to bed, they position themselves directly below the story where the beds are located, and usually during the day, most of them stand around in a single place at the second atrium floor just behind a railing like it's some damn meeting place.
It's like they're unable to chart a correct path to their respective destinations, be it either to their jobs or when going to bed.

Now I'm actually considering to tear down most of it and re-design the whole damn thing into a more dumbed down design that perhaps will be more pathfinding friendly. Weirdly enough, there also seems to be a great deal of issues regarding this with the atrium area itself, might just be me though but something is certainly off.

Settler pathing in general is awful. The layered nature of vaultbuilding just makes it more obvious.

In all settlements, there's a common point they huddle around ... you found it. If you have to tear down stuff then I suggest starting at that point you found, from there, work your way out and sooner or later you will find more spots (or points) that settlers go to before performing their travel package.

If you have the GECK, you could view and perhaps adjust those points to fit your design, basically running a little Vault mod after you built it (may help).

Indeed, but this is actually the first time as far as I can recall that my settlers are having issues with pathfinding.
Normally my settlers have always been able to go where they're supposed to even in multi-layered buildings. Either way I will try to find a solution to improve their pathing, be it either with a mod or re-designed vault layout.

Settler AI pathing in general has been terrible since I've installed this DLC. Even at my other settlements, like Sanctuary, settlers are having a VERY hard time getting around on anything I've built or edited.

Now, before the DLC, Settlers were able to get around, do things, etc. Now, it's quite impossible for them to do anything. Luckily, they still do their jobs and such anyways so I have no complaints. I can still trade with them, make caps from them, get crops from them, and so on.

Funny thing, Settlers work best at Vault 88 because they're constantly are on platforms I've built but they still have troubles with doorways, and no idea why.

You'd think a player-created vault would be an AI Pathing dream, as everything is clicked together, no floating stairs etc. However, my settlers are totally incapable of navigating vault stairs. Doorways seem mostly ok, as long as I've added a Door, but stairs not a chance.

Also, I've noticed that any break in my walls - say while trying to extend a section - sees the settlers streaming out. To where, I've not a clue, the place is EMPTY! Lol.

Great advice, I will certainly try this.

Haha, indeed, I have noticed that too when removing wall segments. Almost like they feel constricted inside the vault walls and just wanna rush out. Although I haven't had any issues with settlers using stairs as far as I've seen.

My settlers usually just tries walking through walls and doesn't seem to grasp that there's a door 3 feet away from them. If there was just a mod or something that could improve their pathing or maybe if it would've been possible to manually map pathing through the vault then that would've certainly helped.

This effectively prevents me from building my ideal vault which bugs the hell out of me.

Indeed, I too felt that there was some change related to the Vault DLC, although I haven't had the opportunity to test it out for myself yet.

Normally settler behaviour/pathing functions at an acceptable level as long as the settlers can carry out their duties, but Vault 88 is a disaster where things can and will go wrong much of the time. Especially if you have a complex vault layout.

I have the same issue. Spent hours building a vault and settlers stare at the wall.

Yeah it's terrible, I assigned one of my settlers to my clinic, and everytime she's supposed to work she just walks in to the wall despite the door being just to her right

I find that the Overseer never fails to find the Vault 88 Overseer's Desk. I put mine on the third floor and Barstow merrily goes up there to typetypetype. She refuses to sleep in the bed I assigned her to, though, and heads back down to middle to hang out with all the other settlers, although in her case I'd just take it as being fascinated to be with people again.

I wonder if she'd go all the way to the Pharmacy if I put the overseer's desk there... something to try when I get home later tonight! :)

I think if you have the experimental objects (bicycle, slot machine, soda fountain, etc), it causes the settlers to act stupid. I made the mistake of placing the slots in the same room as my bar, and the settler assigned to the bar took all day to get to work. So I eliminated the slots, but kept the other three and she started working without any problems.

Try deleting one or all of the experiment objects and see if that helps with pathing.
Pathing in Fallout 4 in general sucks Catelyn Jenner's mangina. No your not alone, i don't even go near the vault, they put the vault in one of the most stupid place they could.

Clearing the vault is annoying, building the vault is annoying. They should have pre built a huge section of the vault for us and then let us add onto.

One thing that they could have done that would have been cool is have that train station clearable and allow us to make it run and connect to the train station of nuka world w/out a cut scene.

I thought it was me from modding my game to much but now. I realized im not the only one who has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible settlers.

Indeed, couldn't agree more. Hope someone actually comes around to making an unofficial hotfix or something, it's needed badly.
