How to power your vault room without vault generators
I seen complaints from a LOT of people struggling with this.

Even with all my building experience I struggled with it for about thirty minutes trying different brahminshit to get it to work. It should not be this hard to do.

Then finally I figured it out.

You need the contraptions DLC in order to do this because it has the counduit pieces needed.

I placed the floor conduit piece (that you connect the wire to) on the floor outside the wall. Then the conduit pipe snapped into place (even though you can not see it) and then the other conduit connector snapped to the conduit pipe. From there I was able to run a wire to the vault wall conduit.

For show I put in another conduit and the light to show this does work. Once the floors are charged then you are good to go from there.

There is also a new Vault Conduit piece that you can fasten to most walls. The floor conducts power to the conduit as long as it's connected to the power plant

Yea, I just put a vault conduit bit on the wall in the first cavern to get power from the power thing already there. No mickey mouse stuffing around. :)

Um ya, you mean the pieces shown in the screenshot. They only work on the INSIDE and can not connect to the OUTSIDE.

The point was to show how to connect power from the outside. For example I put a vault security room near the Roxbury exit of Vault 88. There is not enough room to make a 4x4 room there for just a power generator. So I had to get creative. I also did not want to hear any of the generators running (ie the original 3 generators.)

A good example would be Hangman's Alley. There is not enough room there to put a 4x4 generator room. however using this method you could use the vault rooms there and be able to power them.

Yeah I seen a lot of people sturggling with power issues. Someone frustrated enough trying to figure it out might do a forum search.

Why do people keep showing me conduits or tlaking to me like I know nothing about conduits?

Are people not reading the topic or looking at my screenshot?

just trying to help, sorry I posted what the Bethesda twitch Video said to use in the vault to run power throughout the vault and you can put the power conduits on the outside of the rooms too!..

Rude OP

Rude OP

I will explain it agian a second time.

Wires will not run through the vault walls. The vault conduit panels do not snap on the outside of the vault rooms. Yes you can put the non-panel conduits outside your vault rooms but they will not connect to the power inside the room.

This is for running power to outside your vault or running power into the vault without using the vault power room.

You could also do this to run wiring circuits in the tunnels to other vault sections WITHOUT having to build a new power room in the other sections.

Call me rude if you want but it is not me being rude. Rude is treating me like I do not know what I am talking about because you failed to actually read the topic, posts, and look at the screenshots.

I just noticed that the power panels do snap to the outside of vault structures, but only the domestic and utility pieces, not the room or atrium pieces (confusing as hell, that).

It's a bit of an inconsistent design and I wouldn't have even realized it was possible had I not accidentally snapped one outside a tunnel I was building (was snapping to the inside, nudged my trackball accidentally when snapping, heard the snapping sound but saw nothing on the wall, then realized I snapped it outside).

Ya someone mentioned that on the Bethesda site.

The problem is when you want to cnnect it to a room and not a hall it becomes an issue.

Like for example I made Rylie her own trade shop that is just 6 room pieces, in order to use a panel I would have to add a hall.

I have also found the method I shown to be really good at passing through other kinds of walls.

Ahh, true, hadn't though about using the room tiles as independent structures.

Have you tried using an atrium mid tile on the exterior of the room structure. It can take a little doing to connect (you have to drop an atrium door linked to the room door then the mid next to that) but with a little doing you can panel the outside of freestanding room structures with atrium panels. So far I've only used this to move power out of vault generators but it may be an easier way to connect power to the room 'grid'. (I'm playing on the ps4 but assume the mechanics to be similar enough)

If you want to pass wires through walls, you can also consider using the wire glitch. You aim the dot in the middle of the screen so that it's visibly over a power connector, but has a nearby wire lit up as the selection (usually a wire already attached to the connector). When you click to attach a wire, you'll now be able to run it from the connector to anywhere you like, ignoring walls and distance. It does temporarily mess up the selection of other objects until you exit build mode (but it's fine again as soon as you reenter build mode).

It's a very useful glitch and often produces a more elegant result than trying to get pieces to snap through walls.

I thought the floor pieces conducted power as long as they were snapped to a power source or has this changed?
