Why won't 144hz work in Fallout 4?
When I have my monitor set to 144hz and go in game the frames drop to 35 and below. Though when I have my monitor set to 60hz it locks at 60fps like usual. Is there a fix to this? I have seen videos on youtube of people playing above 60fps and have also heard that having 144 fps has caused problems such as getting stuck at terminals. I would like to know if there is a fix to this. Thanks.

Anything higher than 70 FPS starts to bug the game out, physics goes wonky, interactions are screwy, and even more weird ♥♥♥♥. It's caused by the very dated base engine they are using. Playing higher than 60 FPS is asking for trouble but it isn't impossible, there are tons of guides out there telling people how to unlock it and avoid most of the symptoms. But no, you cannot entirely fix it.

I questioned that a while back. When i was playing before patch 1.5 I was at 3K resolution getting 60 fps when i went to 1080 i was getting 34 to 88 fps mind you i was using a mod that reduced texture size.An when i went down to 720p i was getting 145 fps.On my 144p monitor an i also had the AMD Virtual Super Resolution on.

So iwas getting great frame rates. Then they system locked the frame rate in patch 1.5 from 1080p to 48 fps.But the other resolutions were untouched. So i was getting at 3k 60 fps but at 1080 only 48 cap.

What this means is.These are not decisions of Bethesda. These are decisions of NVidia corp.An when they found my system could perform at that rate on a R9 390 they blocked it an system locked it to only 48 fps.Not only that. But scrips do not work well.So now modding is very difficult. Also NVidia Gameworks is still active or FLEX is still active.

Causing the offload of data on to my processor. So i cant increase ressolution because it puts a strain on my system.I cant get more than 48 fps without crashing. So i will never get 144Hz speed anymore. So there is no point in playing this game if that is what you want. You cant even do it at 720p.By patch 1.6.All resolutions are now 48fps.
720 48fps 1080p 48 fps 1440 48.They system locked it.

Have you tried Bilagos configuration tool for fallout. It is great for tweaking files and such with the click off a button rather than going through all your pref files looking for solutions

Im currently running fine at 144hz @ 1440p have been since day 1, i drop down to around 90fps sometimes in built up areas but thats also with hi res texture mods.

The only problems ive had were getting stuck on terminals which has been fixed and the voice dialog dont sync with the mouth movement very well but thats all.

I think i used Nvidia inspector to unlock the frames.

The engine used by Fallout 4 and Skyrim does not cope well with framerates higher than 60. Both games have a 60 FPS cap that can only be disabled by editing .ini files, however doing so causes game-breaking physics problems. I remember that water shaders would flicker and in Skyrim as well, and would probably flicker in FO4 too.

Sorry for the delay.Yes that was the first mod i used on this game.An it worked fine till patch 1.3.It is patch 1.6.The system is locked to 48 fps.On all resolutions.Low to ultra settings.

If i do the settings to disable now.The game plays for about 45 seconds. Then it reconnizes its running at over 48 fps an intentionally shuts down my entire computer. Not the game. The entire computer.

since the game logic is tied to the fps for some retarded reason there is no use going above 60 anyways since the game will start to freak out

That isn't correct. My Skyrim has over 154 mods an sex mods.I disable the iPresentInterval=1 to 0 an the game jumps to 253 fps.Game works fine.Played for over 4 years without a single problem.Other than animals floating up in the air an some plates flying around when i enter an room.I honestly dont care about that.As long as im getting over 60 fps.

To this day.No problems. If Bethesda says.We are gonna remaster Skyrim.I dread.I dread for the game that I honestly love.Because if they pull the same garbage in Skyrim that they are in Fallout.I`m done.Nothing but hate for Bethesda.I will send angry letters for about a month. Then tell all my friends my story an why not to buy if they own AMD.

Because Fallout is a NVidia Gameworks title. They are the ones who destroyed Batman Arkham Knight.Look at every problem that game had. Then look at Fallout 4.They're the worst thing to happen.

Exactlly. It wont freak out mind you.It just says.Oh.Your getting more than 48 fps.CLICK! You can hear it shut down the computer. If you deal with script writers you can tell. That is a predesigned function.
Ryhnhart Jul 27, 2016 @ 10:04pm
I've had three different configurations run skyrim and two run F4. First one was all AMD, then just an AMD cpu, now no AMD components. No problems with either game. The game running at 48 fps for you is a hardware problem that exists only on your end. If it physically shuts down your computer it is DEFINITELY a hardware problem. Has nothing to do with anything but one of your components ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out. Could be heat, could be dried thermal paste, could be a dying storage drive, or a lemon part. Has nothing to do with Nvidia. I would advise you to bring your computer into a shop to have it looked over, because it sounds like you couldn't do it yourself.

What, nobody's going to charge in here and declare 144hz monitors to be 'inferior' and 'below minimum specs' like every other time someone complains that graphics in Fallout 4 are acting wonky?

Gee, maybe people are starting to realize Bethesda makes buggy games... Nah.
Ryhnhart Jul 27, 2016 @ 11:30pm
F4 certainly doesn't take kindly to 144hz monitors, and yeah Bethesda's games are known to be buggy. I wonder how much is just incompetence and how much is the ancient engine. Little bugs and the such get left behind after official patching is finished all the time, but the big stuff even the modders can't fix is what is making me ask that question.

I'm thinking failing hardware. Is it shutting off instantly, or going through a normal shutdown procedure? If it is shutting down instantly (which the "CLICK!" makes it sound like it is) that is very unlikely to be software. I'm not even sure it is possible.. That sounds like hardware forcing a shutdown to protect itself. Can you hear a click when you shut the computer down normally? If the game was forcing shutdowns on AMD hardware if you go above a certain FPS I think we would have heard more about it.

Anything below 100 fps should be fine. If you go above that you will probably find some physics problems. I cap mine at 90fps.

I love how people with no knowledge of issue blame hardware for the problem.

Basically your saying these guys are just having hardware issues huh?
