Pistol / Vats / Crit build
how important is armor? If i dont go for strength (Put most points in Luck, Agility and Perception) should i put 2 into charisma so i can get the lone wanderer perk? I hear thats a good one and just have dog meat with you along the way and enjoy the extra damage from that perk?

My first playthrough was a sneaky sniper VATS build. I went:

STR 3
PER 9 + Early Bobblehead for Accuracy in VATS
End 1
CHA 1
INT 6 + Early Bobblehead
Agility 7 + You're Special for max AP
LUK 1

This proved to be a very viable build. I consentrated on Gun Nut, Sneak, Sandman, and Ninja

I used Overseer's Guardian as an Assualt Rifle, Tinker Tom's as a sniper and The Deliver as a pistol (Later I started puting points in Gunslinger)

I could get all 16 shots The Deliverer was able to shoot in VATS queued up and still have about half my AP bar to repeat it.

I didn't use any companions, including Dogmeat.

I started with leather armor modded with muffled and shadowed and later combat armor. I looked for pieces that specifically reduced the AP cost of VATS or increased VATS accuracy or damage.

Edit. I don't think you need the extra damage from Lone Wanderer. It's primary purpose is in Survival where carry weight is critical.

Edit2: For Charisma just get the +3 suit from Curtain Call, Newboy Cap and Black Rimmed glasses, Grape mentats and a beer for a total of 12 CHA. You'll pass any speech checks and barter well.

One of the best pistols for a VATS build is Kelloggs Pistol, it refills VATS on a critical. I can hang out in VATS the whole time, combat is usually done before the bodies hit the floor.

If you want to have some fun get all of the Mass Surgical Journals (+2 limb damage) and purchase Wastelanders Friend (50% more limb damage) at Bunker Hill. You can cripple most enemies before they ever get near you. On my melee build I had some fun crippling ghouls then walking up and putting them down with my melee weapon.

The deliverer is good because statistically it's the best 10mm pistol in the game if you can handle having a crappy sight.

You can fire multiple times and crit 2 or 3 times in one attempt
Combine this with grim reaper's sprint and you play 80% of the game in VATS

And the other 20% navigating the title screen because of that good olde VATS freeze lol.

It's been in the game so long that it may as well be a feature, not a bug :U
