How do I copy and paste a specific item?
So with the help of mods and what not, I made custom combat armor for my settlers. I have different chest pieces with different BOS rank insignia, but I'd like to just copy and paste the armors instead of making 10 through the crafting table process.

I tried using the console, but I can't find a way to get the specific item ID of my chest piece without coming up with the vanilla chest piece. Are there other methods?

What do you mean, copy and paste? Don't think it's possible, whatever it is you're asking to do, unfortunately

Item duplicaton, such as using player.additem. However, I can't find the ID of my item.

Have you tried the Dogmeat duplication glitch?
You can spawn yourself a combat armor chest piece, but you can't spawn it with specific modifications you want. It'll have random modifications

Another idea...

Have you tried to use the SpawnDupe command?

SpawnDupe?

SpawnDupe – Spawn exactly one duplicate of the selected reference. World objects that contain multiples will only duplicate a single item. E.g. A box of shotgun shells containing 3 shells will only duplicate a box containing 1 shell.
I did not know SpawnDupe existed. You said you're having trouble getting the ID of your chest piece right? Drop it on the floor first. You should build a piece of floor first, select the floor in your console, and keep the number in mind. Drop your item ontop of it so you know you aren't accidentally selecting something else and using the SpawnDupe on something you shouldn't

Can you duplicate yourself? :D

I have difficulties with selecting items to acquire the ref id as well, but I've found the cooler containers to be easy to select. With two of these containers, I console-select the container with the items and use the 'duplicateallitems refid' where refid is the target container.

I think i am 100% definetely thinking of another command, but i recall in Oblivion i made an exact clone of myself. It had every item and every spell i had - which is great cause i could get 2 of my 1000% op weapon and a copy of my good armour and rare items. I tried killing him without cheats and he 1 shot me with a cheat spell... They also glitch out and only really say generic NPC things though.

open console and type in:

help "item name" 0

(quotes are important so dont remove them aswell as 0 is important too because it removes item filter so you can find any item)
you will get id of every item ingame you want without having to resort to wiki

I tried that, too. Only spawns the vanilla piece.

Find the id for the rank you want, do that search for the exact name. Throw all the peices on the ground, then go into console. Select a peice and type 'amod <OMOD id>' and the paint will be added to the item. Do that for each peice, press the up arrow on the key board to get the last command used so you don't have to retype the command each time.

Edited to add, I've never tryed this on a stack of items, it may be worth a try if you have alot to do.

you can drop the item and click it to get ref id.
If it doesn't have a refid, then hold down E to grab it and use getplayergrabbedref then spawndupe.

The amod way warmachine suggests above will work on a stack.
