Good luck... I had a massive fail moment with it last night, going to have to sit and study what hooks to what. Ended up just dropping a bus full of beds and a garden plot out of the way to keep the new settlers happy.
As for the building, that took me a while to figure out properly and it is still proving a frustration. Doors were a tricky one for me, I've found building two connecting doorways first then adding the door in works best.

Same as every settlement with water pump or purifiers.
The poor bastards in your vault draw straws as to who goes spelunking with a bucket...
just place a power source or if you build some kind of corridor to the water area you can just power it with a vault power node doodad.
It dont.
FYI settlers will consume tatos before any other food type. If you have a supply chain they will consume tatos from another settlement until there is no tatos in the supply lines.
