Ammo distribution
Is there a mod anywhere that change the way guns and ammo distributed among enemies ?

Im tired of seeing only pipe guns and fire bomb everywhere I look, and why the heck 5.56mm ammo is so rare, make assault rifle useless and cant even use it at all ?

Im at 26 and it still doesn't drop consistently with the more ammo perk, all I can find is 1000 .50 cal but around 200 5.56 mm, that's stupid

You can just give yourself ammo with console.
Buy it.
Or install the mod that allows ammo crafting. ( probably the best way )

I agree that some ammo drops are pretty strange even with the ammo finding perk at lvl 3.

Yup I did exactly that before with the crafting ammo mod, but the new survival mod make it really annoying to look for crafting bench or lugging around components for that purpose.

when you get higher level enemies, you get better drops. Legendaries of course drop good ammo most of the time. In a way, it makes sense that you are going to get a ton of the crap .38 and pipe weapons. They are cheap, and therefore common.

You don't need to do anything but head further south on the map. The perk will return more of what you want and need as the enemy level increases. Also make sure your hacking and lockpicking are up to par with the enemies you are killing, the containers they are guarding get increasingly better but are frequently behind a second challenge like hacking a terminal or picking a lock before you can collect a reward.

The other thing I would say is while you are leveling, take note of any building or location that has a lot of desks and filing cabinets in it. As your level increases, and you max out that perk, you will find that these locations will respawn the loot in the desks and filing cabinets, and you won't have to engage any enemies. Parsons Asylum and the Boston Library are my favorites for this. The super mutants respawn but so do the Protectrons so extra robot parts for me.

don't make the mistake i made in my latest survival character: make sure you can pick up the lock pick skill, at least the advanced one. I am level 31 and have had to pass up many a safe because i can't pick it, and won't be able to pick it for another 3 levels ( i am two points away on the SPECIAL, and one point away on the first pick). Since i don't mess with my SPECIAL after the first 10 or so levels, that character will never get at that loot.

Iyou guys were right get south, enemies will spawn with more weapons, raider/ super mutants use pipe weapons, gunner/ synth will use laser/ institute rifles, and I realize assault rifle are classified as really high level weapons to the enemies, only boss super mutants/ gunners level use them and Im currently at level 36

Weird because it's sub par to almost everything

What many people overlook is that whenever you pick up a weapon you also get a free clip from it. If you keep picking up crappy weapons then you're going to eventually drown in the ammo and then you'll think the distribution is really screwed when it is not.

Depending on the weapon you might double your ammo count simply by picking those free extra clips.
