Well, unless you're playing in survival mode, that is.

We've been over this a bit before, but I think I can go further into it now. At one point, you're told that nobody can really know if they're a synth or not. So what are the flags for you?

Well first off, you're told about the new generation of synths: they're smarter, faster, stronger, and in every way superior to a human. They don't have to worry about eating, sleeping, or drinking.
All of that applies to you. It's not that everyone in the wasteland besides you is an incompetent ♥♥♥♥, it's just that you're superhuman.

Okay, how would the Institute replace the real you with a synth?
Easy. After they found you, you had ~60 years in cryo-stasis for you to be switched with a synth. Isn't a little odd that everyone else in the vault died in cryo-stasis but you?

Why are you a courser specifically?
Fast travel. When you get into the Institute, you're told "I installed a courser chip into your pip boy"
No they didn't; they didn't touch your pip boy. You've had a courser chip in your head the entire time, and upon entering the Institute they likely just sent a signal to your pip boy unlocking fast travel there.

There is an alternate version of this, however. If you're playing in survival mode, you're an actual human. Thus the need for food, water, and sleep, the far more difficult combat, and your inability to fast travel.

Its a good theory but that's all it really is; the real reason why the character doesn't need to eat/drink is purely for gameplay reasons (unless, as you mentioned earlier, you are playing on survival)

Thus the only way the theory can have any real backing is for their to be ingame evidence to back it up, either that, or a developers "accidently" let's slip such details.

Not trying to argue with ya, just pointing out that just because you don't need to eat, drink, sleep, whatever in the non-survival game doesn't mean the character is anything other than a human.

A lot of games have it to where you don't eat or drink, it's just that there's no reason to where the gameplay is put ahead of everything else, it's structured so that the character is just "there for the gameplay above all else", rather than being forced to eat or drink, that generally only exists if it's a health mechanic like in Dead Rising, or if you're actually made to like in survival games such as Unturned.

I'm playing survival mode, rendering your whole theory moot. Also wrong. If you want to pretend your SS is a courser though fine by me. That is why Fallout is great as a single player game, noone has to care about whatever it is you believe is going on in your play through.

I said you're a courser if you aren't playing survival mode. If you are in survival, you're a human.
