I know right? I thought for sure the Vault Tec WOrkshop would at least add 2 new Vault-Themed Guard Posts.

I saw a preview vid on Bethesda's Youtube and it looked like they had included new guard posts that resembled the ones the Gunners use. I guess not though :(

It's hard to tell, maybe? The good thing about the existing Guard Posts is that you can "Bury" them with other items and basically hide the fact that they look like Junkfence.

Still, where are the bubble roof/wall turrets huh?! (inb4 mods)

I've gotten rid of all mine anyway - they really aren't an efficient use of settlers. I had a couple still around where I was trying to get the settler to use nearby Power Armor, but the success rate was so low that I am just trying it with a couple people running artillery emplacements. I put so many turrets at my settlements that guard posts don't make a real difference in terms of defense, and have literal packs of dogs at them all, too (and groups of gorillas in the Commonwealth).

Before the scavenger workbench came along, guard posts were really just a way of keeping a settler on alert (and employed). Yup, total job program, one and a siren is likely enough. Well, it does add to defense numbers and it keeps a 'defense bot' parked.

If two styles doesn't work for you, there's always mods.

I'm pretty sure the new workshop will be adding 3 ? There's the security desk, Or two of them then the other weird looking military guard post

Yeah, the Livestream preview showed off a few of the new guard posts, including the security desk.

Yeah, I watched the upload, and I saw them, I think maybe I skipped that second on accident.

So three new Guard Posts, I do like the one that's like a barrier, because even if it isn't used as a post, it has some value for decoration.

Still no Bubble turrets though!

mods have most of that covered, but can we Really say that the sole purpose of the lack of choice or quantity of objects in the vanilla game is purely down to,, keeping the game "optimized", especially since its a big/popular/catered-for-console-users title?

(which seems rather inervted, since the game only really comes too life on a pc).
(opinion. no disrespect to console users/vanilla players).
(indeed,, even vanilla pc players fallout worlds are worlds apart from console enviroments/graphics/ambience).
but a pc's performance can also defenately handle more objects than a console.

Not a fan of mods personally. I think it's too easy to fall down into the rabbit hole and compromise fundamental design. For example, almost every "Aesthetic" mod uses retarded Ballistic fiber upgrades to make your character OP, even nonsensical ♥♥♥♥ like gun holsters. In short, modders aren't game designers, they're kids with a box of legos and a can of paint. I'd never consider removing modding just because of that nebulous potential, but In my 15+ Years of PC gaming, I've seen maybe a dozen mods worthy to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the game they mod***

***Special exception made for most tech mods (MGE for example) since Graphics are an objective and noncreative field. (Graphics, not Aesthetic, but ideally graphic updates don't play with the aesthetic anyway)

which is why i point towards the fact that beth should unlock a whole heap worth of objects and stuff, instead of having to use mods that adds thousands more stuff to the game compared to vanilla.

extra coding as it may be, the sole reason for such limited choice in the game is not just for optimization and lore sake..

yes, of course beth have to make money but overly limited dlc packs that offer very liitte in the way of objects, in comparison to some mods is kind of,, ;(

vanilla fo4 and modded fo4 are 2 different worlds, but in support of OP's original gripe, yes, there should defenately be more vanilla stuff/options to choose from.

(i buy the dlc to bank the assets, while getting some decent play out of its basic form before i overload my system with mods as usual).

It's easy to just want all of the things.

I don't like easy things.

lol.
who said anything has to be easy??
we have unlimited save game options..

like you, i dont like easy things.
but i also like a seemingly infinite system of choices and items, which gives Me the freedom of choice of how each of my thousand different save files lives, or dies.

the game is a type of sandbox after all.
mods make it an even bigger sandbox.
and besides, how is a hundred different designs of chair or "guard post" making things easy?
it expands freedom of expression. nothing else. (especially when the recipes are the same or cost more in resources). but yes, youre right.. not many mods can say that theyre "lore friendly".
