Steam Library + Fallout 4 = Locked mouse pointer.
I left the Steam Library open when I started Fallout 4 , and Steam's page was on top off the screen. The Mouse pointer was locked into the center of the screen. Ctrl+Alt+Delete didn't free the pointer. I had to shut down and reboot my system to free the mouse.

actually, i got this too, especially in windowed borderless mode. i start the game, then click on my other screen, then the mouse is locked on the center of the screen by the game. just press alt+tab until you highlighted fallout 4, release alt+tab, then click, and the mouse should be free again.

if you are talking about the mouse locking, this probably has nothing to do with steam. My computer, which is now a pile of crap, occassionally locks up the mouse for no apparent reason. A reboot frees up the mouse and i go on with my day.

If I have my wireless controller USB signal thing plugged in F4 assumes I want to use that controller and won't let me use the Keyboard and Mouse at all, not even in menu's, which kind of sucks I should have the option to enable or disable the contoller and leave it plugged in....

Sad & Glad that I am not the only one to Knowtice this , and yes I am in Windowed/Borderless. Although this occurs [Locks] when I click on Play. The pointer jumps to the center of the Steam window [which puts itself ontop of the game window] It only occurse when I have left Steam on the screen.

Here is a side note for those of you that give a pooh: Even when you Close Steam it stays running in the background only a task bar Icon [hidden] remains. I can Close Steam compleatly useing that Icon [or the End Process in task manager].

This happens to me alot. New computer, Fresh install, Wired mouse, Fullscreen mode, No mods. Yet the game refuses to switch to the FO4 tab after hitting play on the launcher in most cases it locks the mouse to the centre of the screen. To fix this I have to ctrl alt del and sign out to get the mouse to unlock from the centre.

It baffles me how old this game is and yet the devs just don't care to fix these issues why should I ever buy any other title from bethesda if they can not fix something that has been out this long? So glad I didn't get FO76 or the new space game they released. Bet those will have bugs forever like skyrim.

That's still 100% a your computer issue, as this does not happen normally for virtually anyone else including the OP, who tells us straight up it was their rig and their behavior that led to it.

Do you run dual monitors? Don't move your freakin mouse and don't alt tab while the game is loading... It's that simple. Wait for the process to FINISH.

It is not "100% my computer," dismissing it as it is it just silly. This happened on my old computer and it happens on this one. I use only one monitor. I do let it FINISH.

My old computer was windows 7 upgraded to 10, My new one is Win 11 pro. I play tottal war warhammer 3, civ 6, Cyberpunk 2077. All on this computer without the mouse locking after hitting play on their launchers. Once again It is not my PC it is their program messing up.

Your upgrades matter not, if you're attempting to move the mouse while it is trying to load.

The game predates 2 of the 3 OS's you've got there...

Dude stop trolling. You have no clue what your talking about. Fact remains this is their program messing up.

Windows 7 2009
Windows 10 2015 July

Fallout 4 Nov 2015

Their program is trying to think, and is incapable of doing so.

When the screen goes dark and it tries to load.

Let. It. Load.

It is *genuinely* that simple. Alttabbing in this game is a crapshoot of breaking or fixing things based on who even knows what variables.

Also "windows 10 july of 2015"

The game wasn't developed in 4 months, it was developed over the course of YEARS before that point. meaning: it was developed ON windows 7. Did you think they made a magic wand and somehow crammed years worth of dev time into those few months between an official release of an entirely new OS, and their game dropping?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
