Unlock Boston Airport settlement without doing BoS quests? (console commands)

I'm unclear on when I finally unlock use of the Boston Airport workshop bench. I've heard some people say after completing the entire BoS questline, which is not true. I ran with BoS all the way in my first playthrough and got use of the airport way before having to make choices at the end of the questline. I'm just not sure when it unlocked.

That being said, this go through I want to do Railroad and spend as little time as possible on BoS. Some have said after doing Duty or Dishonor is unlocks. Is that true?

I've tried messing around in console. Clicking around the workbench with console opened finally yielded this ID: 000b3506

When I used the unlock command, it produced Workshop Unlocked - so I know I got the ID right, but that unlock command is for doors/safes/terminals, etc. It doesn't allow use of the workshop.

I have tried activate, setOpenState, setOwnership - no luck. Does anyone know any other console commands to try? Otherwise, when is the earliest that settlement can be unlocked?

(ps: I know it sucks as a proper settlement, I have a specific use in mind)

You don't really need to do the quests, as far as I know. I only did the 1st police station ones and it unlocked for me no problem first time I got to it.

Sort of. What you need to do is clear the airport ruins of ghouls. This is done during that quest, but if you haven't done it before the BoS get angry at you, you can just do it anyway later, without the quest.

It's more of an RP thing. My character for second play through is basically a crazy katana-wielding melee build who is more out for revenge against the Institute than anything else.

Settlements are being ignored except for small ones that I use as pseudo safe houses. I like small areas, flat surfaces, and I build semi sleek looking apartments (see screenshots in my profile). I went with sprawling towns my first play through so this is total opposite. In my mind this is the player's way of keeping a close recon eye on the BoS.

I wonder if you put stuff into the crafting benches you find in the wild do they stay there? Can those be used as a safehouse of sorts.

I unlocked the air port by killing all the gauls it took a wile and they just kept comming but i eventualy killed them all.

I believe so. I use Homemaker Settlements Expanded for materials though so the real danger is losing items and power armor when updating the mod. Unaltered, however, the workshop bench itself should always keep items/materials.

Update: it unlocked after doing the first quest with Danse at the police station, and heading up the Prydwen for the first time. Pretty right at the Prdywen. Now I'm building happily and waiting for a good opportunity to take down the BoS.

it gets unlocked as soon as you defeat the guy that the detective points you to ( being as vague and no spoilery as possible, if you have played the game a bit you know whom i mean.)
after you emerge from that battle you will get a mission to go check out whats going on at boston airport

this is the item ID codes for all the VANILLA items in the game.( IE non DLC added items)
but thats where all the scrap parts are listed and all the armor power armor pieces ETC

You should technically be able to unlock the settlement right after exiting the vault. It is only when you progress the main/Brotherhood storyline it then is locked again.

Thanks! I got it to unlock shortly after meeting the BoS - but I've also learned you're correct about "after killing that guy".

my issue is after destroying BoS it became locked again, before it just unlocked after i joined without any mission just after fire-support

bdw i know a trick how to make BAirport a real settlement use this trick to get all the stores & stuff from other settlement to there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlwRc_mXQR0, i just tried with bar once & i got it to BAirport & if u have DLC'S u can plant stuff even when u don't have dirt & on this thing u can also put water pumps, cause there dirt in this boxes i forgot how they were called, just build gardening plant box & u can put pump there, i'l call it gardening plant box

u should be able to do it right after u clear the airport with or without the Bos quest with Dens i mean the quest u get before getting to police station to help Dens

but this play-trough i run in to problem workshop says u cant... not yet after clearing the airport, there is 2 possibilities 1bug other cause i have been to graygarden & from there cause i was close to the police station i got Dens SOS radio & the fire-support quest despite not listening the radio (quest just starts when u are at certain range) so i think getting that quest locked the airport for Bos exclusive, that i should have cleared it before i got that quest in to my quest log

this is my theory unless its the first option, a bug
