What to do I'm stuck! ***Spoilers***
I haven't played Far Harbor yet. At all. I was trying to do the initial Brotherhood missions. In fact, I'm trying to do the "perfect ending" where you don't have to kill anyone except the Institute, and that walkthrough suggests you do Danse's Arcjet mission, then one mission for each of his helpers, Reese and the Scribe what's her name, then more missions for Danse, then go to Diamond City and continue the main quest.

OK the Scribe gave me a mission to retrieve a piece of equipment from Kitteredge pass. I was mystified to notice that it was off the border of the map. I finally arrived, at the Nakano place etc. Did the investigation etc. Ungh, Far Harbor? Oh boy.

So I thought, all right I'll put FH on hold here, and find that piece of junk for what's her name. Surely it's somewhere around the Nakano house or... In cold dread I find that the arrow points to the boat! Kitteredge is at Far harbor? Aw man!! I'm not ready to do FH yet. I understand it is recommended that you take Nick Valentine. I haven't even met him in this playthrough. My mind was on other things right now, not to engage in an extensive DLC.

OK, spoiling as little as possible, I understand some may be necessary, what do you suggest I do from here? Can I still rescue my perfect ending project? I wonder, is Kitteredge pass near to where you arrive such that I could only "surgical strike" to get the item and return to the Commonwealth without doing anything else there? That is, getting as little involved in Far Harbor as possible until I can return with Nick.

It's a big mistake that you can get radiant missions pointed to far harbor locations. I remember in Skyrim where you sometimes got quests to Solstheim very early in the game when you weren't quite ready to go there. Aside from that, those quests got buggered as hell.

As soon as you arrive and help with the defense of far harbor you can just walk away and not do any more quest there. Also you don't need to meet Nick to go to far harbor. I've done it multiple times now. And it has no connection with the main quest in the base game.

I know that I don't need Nick, but I read that it is recommended because he has some involvement in the plot. I don't know much (I have avoided spoilers as much as possible) but he has dialogues and interactions that I would miss if I don't take him?
I think I'll try to backtrack to a save before I got that quest and see if I can get a different one. I did a lot of things in the interim though. Drat.

You still can get his dialogue if you don't go to Acadia. And by not needing Nick I ment you didn't have to complete "getting a clue" to go to far harbor.

At least the mission itself is logical, I have been sent by Sanctuary settlers to wipe out ghouls in FH for multiple times because "nearby ghouls are threatening".

Happens a lot for me for the quests given by ryse, he literally sends you to far harbor even though they don't know about the place and have never been there in the first place.

I wouldn't mind going to Fh if I had already explored it, but I don't want to ruin that first exploration experience by beelining to the scribe's objective. I looked up the FH map and the objective is at the other end of the map. I would have to get quite involved and explore locations just to get there.
