no plugins.txt file?

ok so i want to mod this game and read up that there should be a plugins.txt file (hidden and all) but when i get to the fallout folder via appdata the only file is DLC (which has all of the current mods atm) but no plugins file.

im wondering since i downloaded mods then RAN the game is this is what screwed it up? help please.

you have to launch the game once right up to the character creation screen in the bathroom and then the file should be created when you quit the game

make sure you don't have that file area set for hidden or it wont appear

so should i make a new character? i already have a save file

then your file most likely is set for hidden

no i have it shown but in the fallout folder there is no plugin.txt file just DLC file.

also i went to make a new character again and quit (didnt save) but the file still didnt show.

that's very strange, never heard that happen before, I know you can make your own ini files, I had to make my own for either skyrim or this game to do with the Fallout4custom ini in C:\Users\User\Documents\My games

Do you know how to make a plugins ini file? I had to follow a youtube video tutorial myself to learn

no idea how. atm im verifying the files to see if it pops up maybe. if anything i may just have to redownlad the game and try again.

i will say this is odd to as i have skyrim and it shows the plugin.txt file but nothing for this.

UPDATE!!

so after i a ingerity check nothing changed. so before do a reinstall i said "why not be stupid /shrug" and went a put a txt file called plugins and copyed the stuff from the dlc file to that file (didnt delete the dlc file). got into my game and bam.... mods where there xD

that's good to hear, the file itself isn't hard to make, I remember saving as all when I made the Fallout4custom ini file a while back

The plugins file is in a different spot from all the other game files, including settings and saves. I forget what the path is off the top of my head.

If you use pretty much any mod manager you shouldn't need to touch it. If you are installing mods manually, don't.

I found a solution.
go to mods [at the main menu] and press T and select what mods you would like to enable.
T is labeled as "Load Order" and will create the plugins.txt file

The plugins.txt is now DLClist.txt or something like that
