Survival mode and stupid companions.
So I'm assuming you just have to play survival mode as lone wanderer...

My companions keep wandering into holes, or into groups of enemies, or places I cant get, dying, then it goes 'they are back at X settlement across the map, with all your stuff, and you dont have fast travel.

Anyone know any mods to stop this or is this just another ♥♥♥♥ ass annoyance of survival?

Lone Wanderer is best unless you can get ADA built up with dual gatling lasers, then she can help a lot with all things in survival playthroughs.

I didnt have ADA built up, but what I had fell down into a giant ass pit and just, nope, she has back at starlight drivein, doesnt matter that you are down past diamond city...

Tanking out ADA makes life easier.
I don't play Survival and I don't take companions, even for thier perks.
And I sure as heck wouldn't take them in Survival.

If the companion controls /AI/pathfinding worked better..maybe. As is it is too clunky and slow.

Come up and watch in horror as your companion blunders into that Supermutant Patrol you were just sneaking past. See as your doom approachs on the blinking green arm of oblivion.

Never had my companions fall in these holes, but they sure as hell would find a way to fall off a building or elevated bridge. If you are using mods anyway just use the console command mod and use moveto player <refID> to bring their ass back. As far as them aggroing its.... yeah.

In the early stages they did save my ass when my sneak/carry was low by being a distraction/pack mule.

I don't think followers have ever been that great in fallout until you have them geared up and by that time you're OP yourself.

i am a great lover of the survival mode, but i rarely use companions. A few times in FAllout 3. Maybe once in Vegas. And once in Fallout 4. For my first playthrough of the main quest i took Nick for a time. At other times i took Piper because i wanted her as a romantic companion. In the end, both became pack mules that did little to contribute to my fight. Before playing survival mode, it didn't matter if they rushed into a shower of enemy bullets. With survival mode, it matters a lot. To waste a stimpack every fight...unacceptable. So i took to bringing dogmeat as a pack mule. He did the same crap. When he took a bullet while in the Diamond City area, i decided i didn't need a companion and let him slink back to Red Rocket. i have had no companions since. And i am still playing survival mode.
They do muck things up, but I like having them around for the dialogue and well, pack mules, especially with survival's carry weight limits.

Honestly, I love survival mode with the exception of companions and, the worst part for me, saving

Could be worse. I lost Cait when I was in Far Harbor and she went back to Sanctuary. I honestly didn't need her, I needed my stuff. I can go solo even without the lone wanderer perk easily in survival. Game isn't as hard as Bethasda thinks it is

I just recently had Ada go hostile after I took a nap and Paladin Danse automatically ejected himself from my party for some inexplicable reason. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Btw never had them jump from a great height except for Dogmeat. Strong was the only companion that for some reason lost all his health then returned to the tower whenever you try to exit or enter a building.

Companions most of the time act stupid, get stucked on rocks and all that good stuff, the only ones that rly worth ur time r the robots, cuz u can make some pretty effective combinations and their carrying capacity can be very large, but i rly think the lone wanderer perk is way bether than any companion cuz take less dmg, 100 extra carrying capacity and 25% more dmg? yes please

Unless you enjoy survival as it is. I downloaded a few mods from nexus that allowed me to enjoy the elements of survival(eat, drink, sleep, sickness, damage increase etc.), but made it less "hardcore"(save only from sleeping(aka your character has narcolepsy sleeping at ever bed he/she sees) and walking everywhere.
I got "Everyone's best friend" which allows you to have Dogmeat and a companion at the same time.(A feature that was going to be in the game. There is a few dialogues in the game like "but what about the mutt and his/her companion? etc.)
Then the Fast travel in survival & quick save in survival mods.
I dont mind the no fast travel, I kind of like that feature the saving is the real issue. Can you link to the mod on nexus that allowed quick saving? There is nothing like spending 2 hours building a settlement for your game to crash, and since you cant stop every few minutes to quicksave, BACK TO BED after you build each room.

also the falling thing was half my fault, I was skirting around one of those giant craters where the bombs fell, something gulch, or something, I forget, there is a deathclaw at the bottom and a little cave.

Survival mode is more appropriately named how much crap you will put up with mode.
