Contraptions production.
Ok, I saw the new contraptions thing and heard you can mass produce 'stuff" with it. However, the only thing I would actually need to manufacture is ammo and glue unless it lets you make power armor parts/frames.

Another thing is can you make a machine that allows you to harvest more from stuff you collect? Like a foundry that melts stuff down and gives you more metal per can etc.? Because I can't exactly make a lot of what I usually need as I keep running out of resources like glue...it's always the glue..and rubber..and lead..

You don't need a machine to make glue -- you can cook it yourself with mutfruit, tatos and corn (and I think some water). Go to a cooking station, scroll down to "Utility" and make Vegetable Starch. Each starch gives you 5 units of adhesive. One good size farm with those three plants growing could give you more glue than you'll ever need.

I know how to *make* glue by being a dirt farmer, I wanted to know if i could manufacture it.

You can only make random/useless items, ammo, some clothing (like suits and dresses), basic armors, basic weapons, and some explosives.

It is also a pain to actually manufacture since you have to manually pull all the necessary materials out of your workshop and place them in the machine.

The only one that's worth is the ammo, but there are mods that do it better than this.

Actually if you put the vacuum hopper next to the workshop, it'll do it automatically.

Well, manufacturing is the only way to get several hundred gatling lasers, and since it is the best weapon to give to settlers... ;)

+ theres a couple of standalone machines that you can download and add to to your factory setup/options.

no one has ever needed machines to craft anything.
the benches have handled most of the crafting needs through mods for a Long time.
however, contraptions Is cool and intereseting and manufacturing extended is That Good,, its what contraptions Should of been all along..
true, theres still a couple of things missing from the mod, but Without the mod,, youre cutting yourself very short indeed.

Making a giant Willy Wonka factory turning trapped raiders into jet and food paste is an unexpectedly glorious pleasure. Seeing lines of skulls and skeletal hands and human meat pass by on the conveyor is hilarious. Needs Manufacturing Extended and Soylent Green mods.

Unfortunately one of the more useful things is currently impossible, namely auto-recycling of anything other than junk. So we are missing armor and weapon and ammo scrapping machines.
