Not responding on startup
I just purchased this game during the summer sale. The drivers for my GTX980 are all up to date, yet the game won't even load, it's just a black screen. When I press any key or click the mouse, I get the "Fallout 4 is not responding" prompt. When left alone during startup, the screen will just remain black and not load at all, even after letting it sit for several minutes. Anybody else had a similar issue, or does anyone know of any fixes?

When I try to start Fallout (which I also bought during the summer sale today) I just get a black screen for about 5 seconds and then it just disappears.. Hope someone has the answer!

Don't have all the answers for me step 1go to options. makes sure the settings are good. Is it set to your native resolution? Some people need it set to windowed borderless. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will respond soon.

I just tried windowed borderless, and it works perfectly. That's pretty damn weird. The game's been out for awhile, you'd think issues like this would be corrected... but it's also Bethesda. I recently went back and played Skyrim again, which is an old game now, crouched next to a table in a house, and suddenly fell through the floor into a glitched, black abyss and died, so I shouldn't be surprised, haha. At least I can finally play this game.

For me it's not working even in windowed borderless which is what I always use... is there any solution?

I've noticed it also causes Steam to stop responding when I close the game... Please someone offer a fix

After an expirement, mods are indeed the problem... but I really don't want to play without my mods so I guess I'm screwed

Well now the game is working again fine for no obvious reason. Perhaps disabling mods, launching the game, quitting the game then re-enabling the mods works? Give it a go perhaps but I'm no tech wizard.

This is a new issue given how old this thread is.

Post your full system specs (not a guess, not an abbreviated list. go to the top of your steam library window and click HELP > SYSTEM INFORMATION and post that here), and post EXACTLY what happens when you attempt to run the game. When does it fail? What does it do? Has it ever run successfully on that exact computer? Are you using mods?
