Contraptions - Sorter machines can't sort Caps
So first off all, I'm really disappointed that the sorting machines require you to physically enter items into them to select. I thought that a terminal would be used to specify what to filter so you don't have to already have something you know you want to filter later.
What makes this worse though, is I'm trying to extract all items from my workshop to process them along the way so everything is sorted and then fed into builders and such. While doing a test I found caps being fed one at a time onto the conveyor. So I figured the first thing I need to do is scrub the caps out and deposit them somewhere I can look for them later... only it seems impossible, becuase caps are not physical items after you pick them up! So how am I supposed to tell a sorting machine to sort something that can't be placed inside it?

What do you think the chances are that someone can make a mod which makes Sorters controlled by terminals?

Hm I think I just figured a backwards way to do this. I can probably sort for components, by including all the types of materials (steel, wood, etc). Because the caps don't have any components, they will be one of the only things that go through one side.Water will also go, but that needs to be sifted out of the main pile anyway, and that is something I can then scrub out of the caps line..

By the way, talking to myself so far, but for anyone interested there is already a mod for contraptions which adds some more things like a Recycler machine, which breaks items down into components.

You can, open the console, click on the sorter and an ID will show up. Then start writing:

ID.additem 0000000f 1
and press enter

That will add a bottlecap to the inventory

This is great, I used it once and it worked, but now I am getting the error:
Unknown referenced object 'ID'

EDIT - found solution.
Click sorter in console so Id comes up
type: additem 0000000f 1
press enter.

Extended Manufacturing has a Recycler but only for junk. Need one for weapons, armor & PA.

Yeah, you were supposed to replace 'ID' with the actual ID, but just clicking works as well
