Don't see the point of the conveyor belts in the new DLC.
I mean I get what they were going for but theres a rather glaring set of problems with this build a factory thing they came up with.

First, You need to manually fill the hopper yourself with the components/items you need to build stuff. These components are typically rare if your making anything worth producing so your not going to have that many of them anyway.

Second, Because you need to do that first thing you'll quickly realize it's faster to just not even bother with the hopper or the conyevor from the hopper and to just place the items (which need exact ratios or else your going to have lots of junk in your producers all over the place) directly into the production machines themselves.

Then, You realize that using conyevors to bring everying back to one central place is again way more work then it's worth. Because of lack of 2 way to 1 way belts (think of a inverse splitter) leading back to a central point.

You also realize that you can't have multiple producers of the same type on the same conyevor line, because the computer that controls them regards them as all the same if their connected. e.g; you could have 3 ammo machines on one line but their all gonna be making 10mm bullets and the first component splitter is just going to send all the materials to the very first producers unless you go thru hell and back with splitter belts which are flakey at best for splitting things.

Again, even if your like me and you've picked up basically every single thing you've ever seen for 70+ levels your only going to keep a couple producers making anything of value going for maybe 10 minutes and your going to be completely out of materials, materials noone sells in bulk. Meaning even if you designed a large extravagent factory that can produce 20 things at once it will be doing nothing 99.99% of the time.

Finally, You come to the conclusion that the only way to basically do anything quickly and efficently is to have every producer solely independant with it's own terminal and power supply connected to it and it's own collection box.

some mod author well probably make it into a item sorter eventually, if it isn't already :steamfacepalm:

Pretty much agree on everything else, but I noticed that there's a "Vacuum Hopper" in the hopper list with the description saying it automatically takes items out of a container to feed itself. Theoretically this means you can place it next to the workbench in a settlement with a lot of settlers assigned to scavenging stations to automate that part, at the very least.

Of course, the problem is you'll still have to clear out the workbench of unused materials like bone and concrete, otherwise they'll stop gathering at some point.

Sadly vacuum hopper can't take items from workbenches. You have to manually load junks from workbench to assembly line anyway. Plus you can't use junks in other settlements.

Yup, can't auto vac outta workbenches and you can't order settlers to produce something like potatos and throwem in the hopper. You personally have to scour your settlements first to collect up all the items containing the building components you'll need for what you want to make and then;

1. Manually drop all the items on the ground, manually break them down and then load the hopper with the exact ratios you need.

OR if your lazy.

2. Throw all the items with the components you need and hope for the best. If you do it this way all the ♥♥♥♥ that the producer doesn't use will just sit inside of it, forever, unable to be used by anything else til you manually walk over to it and clear all the unused component types out of it.

So if you use actual items in the hopper, your going to constantly need to run over to the machines to clean them out all the time anyway, so why not just put ♥♥♥♥ in manually anyway?

Well then, that's incredibly poorly thought out.

I suppose it's a good thing that I haven't had the space to build a mega factory then.

hmm any one have any guides or may be it best not to look at this like factoria. i think iam just over complicating things.
azxcvbnm321 Jun 21, 2016 @ 3:23am
It's not poorly thought out. If it automatically got stuff from the workbench, then it could empty something you wanted to keep or some rare material so when you wanted to build that turret because an attack is imminent, oops, you're out of oil or steel. Then imagine the complaints. This is done so that you have control of the operation.

The best part of the DLC is of course the new functionality which will be modded and made to everyone's satisfaction. There will be a mod for each different person's want, some will connect all workbenches, others not, etc. It's better done that way.

Worked for this maniac, pulling from the workshop. Reports indicate that it has to pull directly from the workbench, not from any crafting station, though.

so,, my first hak 'n' slash atempt at a travel-track-shoot conveyor from sanctuary to red rocket went well...
(crashed as i was cleaning up).

now i know its possible, soon enough i'll have one running through the country side.
hopefully to diamond city.

im just mad like that.. especially with sandbox games like this.
i also have a few interior shooting grounds with various targets, so im very much looking foward to more moving target mods on nexus.

*wasteland safari track-shoot departing from DC pest control hq. this way -->*.
*enterance fee 1000 caps*.
*you keep what you kill*.
*DC health authorities take no responsibilty for loss of life or limb*.
(ghille suits, attack dogs and retrieval hounds recommended).
(anti rads, psycho jet and stimpaks sold seperately).

One thing I will never know:

Why there is no AUTO-SORTING in FO4? They had it in FO3!
Remember you can click one button and ALL your bobbleheads will go to display table?

In NV someone even make a home mod has lockers with auto sorting function to all equipment

I feel they missed a easy oppurtunity to justify the hopper/conyevor system with a Disassembly Machine and a way to load finished goods into the workbench.

It would have opened the possibility of "When you return to base you'd throw all junk into a hopper instead of the workbench, it would then conyevor line processes everything to components and inserts it back into the workbench." then you'd have the exact stuff you needed when you wanted to do things or you were setting up a new place that didnt have a supply chain.

Ok the "Manufacturing Extended" mod really helps alot of my problems with this DLC. You can now actually make a system that pulls junk from the workbench, breaks it down to components, then puts the components back into the workbench. Then another new machine pulls out only components for the builders so you don't need to clean junk outta them. This ain't bad now. Still needs some 2 way to 1 way belts, but it's getting there.

Well I guess it's for aesthetic and management fun. Because the Scavenging Stations are far more efficient.
PocketYoda Jun 21, 2016 @ 10:57pm
This contraptions DLC seems like a huge waste of time and effort.. Honestly i purchased the season pass for this?

Boring.
