Okay so how do you break your limbs?
Sometimes the character's limbs break and I don't know how it happens. How does it happen?

Usually when you take very localized damage.
All of your limbs have their own seperate health bars that aren't related to your main health bar. When those limbs lose all their health (due to being shot or you taking damage by falling or something), they become crippled, causing debuffs. Broken limbs can be repaired using stimpacks or by visiting a doctor and getting healed. Also, unless you're on survival mode, they will also heal over time.
So yeah, stop getting shot or jumping off cliffs and you should be fine.

I wonder if the ghouls ask that when I target their limbs.....things that make you go "hmmmm"

When I shoot ♥♥♥♥ too close with my explosive combat shotgun. "Ah! my arm! It's broken"! That's how I do it. :)

I wonder if there's an actual threshold for PowerArmor's fall damage. I mean, true, while the whole thing is durable enough to keep on running after falling off a skyscraper, a simple human is squishy enough to possibly take fatal damage - not because of splattering their face against the concrete pavement, but just because of the sudden stop that happens. Hmmmm... And now I need to find a high enough building to test that one. Guess it's time to start working on the Wasteland Survival Guide, vol. II.

I jumped off the BoS airship just fine in power armour. I'm guessing that there is no upper limit (even if that does totally ruin a NPC's backstory)

You aslo can break your legs in Survival if you walk too long when you're in overcharge (I mean carry more items than you can).

That's called "overencumbered". Well, thanks for pointing that out. I wonder if that'd happen regardless of whether or not you have the PA equipped (because, logically speaking, it should break your power armor's legs, and not yours). I guess it doesn't, though.

Well yea, that's the whole basis of my post. Best part is I can just keep shooting as you don't actually need to be accurate at all with this gun, in fact broken limbs helps lining up the drunk shot.

Hey I'm sure that's more than the 100ft that what's her face broke her legs in power armour in. What's up with that? Hell, I can jump off mass fusion and load/land in good neighbour. lol.

no limb damage in PA unless you don't have that particulat armor plate from the frame then you can get shot to the body part

you're walking in a sort of pneumatic exoskeleton frame anyway, see Proctor Ingram, she can walk in it being disabled (no legs)

Terminal velocity. If Power armor can keep you alive at Terminal Velocity, it doesn't matter how high you are. Falling Power Armor seems to reach its terminal velocity at like 25 feet, lol. Once the inertia is overcome by the acceleration.

Remember, it's not the pavement that kills you, it's the stop. The pavement just facilitates this stop in amost profound way. If you were to go from Terminal velocity to 0 while still in the air, you'd desintegrate just the same as if you had hit concrete.

Now, whether or not the cushioning and shock absorbtion is significant enough for that... that's another story.

Try the tower in the middle of Boston where you find Strong. I remember someone saying that the fall from there can kill you whilst in Power Armour - In mid-air if I remember rightly.

On one hand, yeah, terminal velocity is a thing; yet, need I remind you that the hands-down worst situation for one'd body is when enough force is applied vertically, either head towards toes or the other way around. That maximizes the amount of force applied to its internal organs with a potential to damage them, and it actually can be lethal when you're instantly stopped from speeds far lower than 50 mps.
