The Mechanist's Lair.
Is there any way to get settlers to inhabit the Mechanist's Lair, I don't seem to be able to build a Recruitment Beacon anywhere.

I tried quite a few times but I was never able to, I guess they won't let you recruit any settlers inside of an interior.

You have to send settlers from elsewhere.

I guess you could send people who would join you in quests, such as piper etc.

Would have been nice to get a settlement going there.

Most settlers I only get the option to trade.

Open build mode, highlight settler, choose 'Move'.

No doesn't work, although you can send a supply line there.

You could populate it with robots

Strange, as it works for me. (No mods installed).

No idea then. I just checked, and the move command showed up alongside create supply line, and the lair showed up on the list.

Yup your right, move or supply line can be selected, but not with all settlers.

But the original idea was to attract new settlers to the Mechanist's Lair, not just move them there.

A lot of the Minutemen survivors in Sanctuary can't be moved, but any generic npc named 'settler' can.

Yeah, you can't build a recruitment radio beacon, so you have to send settlers there. There are usually generic settlers around after the "Rogue Robot" radiant quests that you can send to live in the Mechanist's Lair.

You can't grow any food, so you have to set up supply lines for food.

I was able to get 19 water out of it by finding tiny areas that accepted water pumps and one that was big enough for a powered water pump. The spots are in the upper most area (to the upper left if you are looking out from the Mechanist's control room). It is the northern most buildable area on the map. In the corner just to the right of the "Research Wing" sign you can fit 2 water pumps. Turn and go up the nearby stairs, and you can fit another water pump in the left corner at the top of the stairs. Turn right and you can fit a powered water pump across from the nearby "Facilities Wing" sign.

You can build Trade Caravan Posts there if you've done the required missions at Bunker Hill, but you can't build stores.

You can build the crafting stations, but other than that, it's not very useful as a settlement.

I find its best use is to just make robots to inhavit it, then have ALL those robots be your provisioners to the rest of your settlements. Even if they get reset to protectrons by a bug they still wont die unless you shoot them, and if they don't reset, you have an army of sentry bots roaming the commonwealth ready to blow the everliving crap out of someone.

And since they're robots, they don't get sad or need food or water. Their happiness is capped at 50 though, so you'll only ever have 50 happiness in the lair, but then its just your trading network so meh.
