Mod Idea: Fallout 4 mixed with Portal 2?
Okay, let me say first thing that I have absolutely no idea about making mods. I don't know the first thing about programming or convincing someone to program. I don't know if I'm supposed to go to someone specific about this, if I commission them with money, or if I'm not supposed to because of copyright laws. So please, be gentle with your replies to this; I just had an idea for a mod (or series of mods) and I wanted to share it just in case someone with the know-how might be able to do something about it, because it made me excited to think about it. Advice on how to convince someone, or who to ask to do this, would be greatly appreciated; I don't want to be that annoying person who goes to their forum/website/whatever and says, "hey do this. do this. you should do this. I don't care if you're busy, or don't want to, do this." So please educate this uneducated person on what the process is for this!

Anyways. I really like Portal 2, and I really like Fallout 4, and I know that both of them are in their own versions of post-apocalyptic universes--Portal with the Black Mesa Incident, and Fallout 4 with the nuclear winter and the Great War. But their timelines, at least for Portal separately from Half Life, are pretty similar:

Aperture was recreated as a science company from the shower curtain company by Cave Johnson in 1944. The culture of Fallout 4 is based on a nuclear-version of the 50s culture of America, extended 100 years, which fits well with the remains of the culture of Aperture in the ruins you see, maybe with some minor adjustments.

In the 1990s or so, Bring Your Daughter to Work Day happened. Aperture is locked down, never to be seen again. This is when the extended Cold War is still going on in America in Fallout, hence the freeze in culture and extension of nuclear technology, so if, say, Aperture was one of the more obscure science manufacturers of their era that "went out of business" according to the public and disappeared off the map, that would work. Again, with some minor adjustments. The computers in the Aperture facility already have colored screens and higher tech mice, keyboards, and motherboard systems. They're still pretty old compared to today's computers, they're not *that* far off of Fallout's; they could be adjusted to look like the proper computer type or ignored completely without much damage to the suspension of disbelief, I think.

From there, Aperture has no contact with the outside world. Chell is locked up in there for an indistinct amount of time, so she would have been down there and safe from the bombs when they fell in 2077. I would assume she first "escaped" from GLaDOS before the bombs, because of the radiation. Then when she wakes up in Portal 2, you can either assume the voice talking is glitched or literal when it says she's been asleep for something like 200 years. I'll take it literal for this. I say she was asleep for a little over 200 years, and so Portal 2 ended just before Fallout 4 started.

Here's where the mod would come in. I hope. If this is even remotely possible.

So, you'd have a similar intro sequence. You make your character, preferably to look like Chell. Specifically Chell Johnson. There's a theory out there that she might be the adoptive daughter of Cave Johnson. If that's too ridiculous for you, let's just say that she was the random daughter of an Aperture employee. Chell Whatever. She's grown up and married to Nate, and has Shaun.

You'd have the model for the cardboard science project of Chell's that you see in the ruins of Aperture: the fold-out explanation of her potato battery. She's pretty old for that sort of thing, but she remarks to Nate that she's doing it for nostalgia, to make her father happy on Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. She and Nate might mention how Chell is taking her husband and son there as a family outing. I don't know if this would take extra voice-acting added in, or if they would just leave Chell silent for the modified dialogue and have captions, but either way works, I suppose. The programmers of Portal stated that Chell wasn't actually mute: she kept silent as a sign of rebellion against GLaDOS, because it was one of the only choices she could make for herself, and GLaDOS misunderstood it as a disability, so Chell *can* talk.

The next part of the intro is totally different. Instead of the bombs falling, the family walks over to where the Vault would be, except instead of a Vault it's one of the Test Subject Volunteer agencies. Chell and her family go in with the cardboard science project and are confused when Chell doesn't see her father anywhere. They hand the project off to a scientist and are told that part of the day's "festivities" is being test subjects themselves, for fun. So they all put on jumpsuits, modded orange instead of blue, and step in the cryo pods. The whole area could look the same, it's mainly the dialogue and jumpsuit that would have to change to make it work.

Chell goes to sleep. As the screen fades, you hear voiceovers from Portal 2. GLaDOS saying "there you are." Her instructions, her screaming at you for killing her, her snarkiness. Wheatley saying hello, Wheatley urging you to run, Wheatley trying to kill you, and Wheatley saying "no no don't let me go!" when he's flying into space. Then GLaDOS telling you to just leave. This is all meant to imply that once Chell was frozen, she was taken from the cryo pod and used as a test subject in the underground facility, through the story of Portal.

The next part I have no idea what to do about. I mean, I have a couple vague ideas, but I don't know what would be smoother for the story and what would be easier to mod. One part of me just wants Chell to wake up in the pod, like GLaDOS put her back in there, and have the whole Shaun bit. The other part wants you to somehow have Chell in that wheat (razorgrain) field, and walk through to find an old science bunker going into the mountain, and have her ride an old bullet train inside that would lead back to the Vault, where she'd go up and out. Or if you have a better idea for how to fit the rest of the story in there, that'd be great. Like I said, I don't know the first thing about mods, so I don't know if any of this is remotely possible or not.

But I do know that instead of going back for the Cryogun, you'd eventually find Wheatley, having crash-landed at the Institute and in need of rescuing (instead of Shaun? In addition to Shaun?) and you'd be able to repair him by using him as a head-mod in the robot repair station. Once you do that, he's a companion. At 50% affection, he initiates the Aperture mission by telling you that you've inspired him to care more about helping others than protecting himself, and he wants to take down GLaDOS for good. So instead of the Cryogun, you'd go back to Aperture for a heavily modified Portal Gun. It wouldn't make portals, since there aren't moon-dust-surfaces in the Wasteland. But, it might make a glitchy mini-quantum explosion thing, like a small antimatter bomb or something, because the portals can't connect. I don't know. Maybe that's not possible. Maybe you should just keep the Cryogun and have that be in the old Aperture facility, and have Chell take that instead. Maybe you can't even have her go back to Aperture, because I don't know if the map would be even compatible with Fallout 4. I don't know.

But that was my idea for a mod, or an extended series of mods that can be put together. If anyone has any feedback or ideas about this, please let me know! And again, be gentle! I don't know what I'm talking about!
