SPOILERS. How are synths made?

The synth making section in the institute really grosses me out. Gen 3 synths are basically artifical humans, organic from everything i've seen... And then i remembered the institute is notorious for kidnapping people. Then i noticed the giant red organic material pool in the center of the room used to make synths...

I think i know where those people went.

Everything is synthetic. I thought in the red pool was just synthetic jelly to make padding for the bodies to make them supple and more like human bodies to the touch. However, I saw X6-88 drinking a glass of water. Why?

Bethesda has idle markers that play out regardless if anyones a synth.
As long as they're humanoid, they'll be able to smoke, drink a glass of water, etc.

I've long advocated the only rational response to synth infiltration, murdering each and every living thing you come across. Can never be too careful.
