Automatron Bug - Robots with blank names
Just wondering if anyone else is getting this. I've finished the Automatron quest, got the Robot Workbench and have crafted some new robot companions. After the robot has traveled with me for several hours, it's name disappears.

I can still interact with it, talk to it, make it attack, dismiss it as a Companion or even make it do a self-destruct and blow itself up. The problem is that I can't make any further modifications to it with the Robot Workbench. It no longer appears in the Workbench list as a select-able robot.

I'm not running any mods that modify Companions or let me craft/modify robots (except the Automatron DLC, of course.)

I'm having the problem, and have posted about it, but it seems like nobody is having the problem because I've gotten no replies also

I have this problem too, after I create a new robot and take it with me as a companion, it's name disappears and I can't edit it on the robot workbench anymore.

I tried to disable all my mods but it did not help.

And the mods I use should not have anything to do with the problem, it worked on a previous game with the same mods I use. After I started a new game I suddenly just had this bug.

I really hope they fix this as soon as possible.

I think that's a known bug - the only way to keep the name from changing is to never use the robot in question as a companion. I have made a bunch of robots, named them, and assigned them to supply routes, and none of their names have changed. A few have reverted to the basic Protectron parts and needed to be rebuilt, but that is a different bug,

I've had this issue, except the name goes blank right as soon as I make the robot my companion.

My game crashes when i modify an existing robot as well. I make simple robots with no parts for supply lines and the game dont crash.
As far as I know I just got this problem, tried multiple saves and older playthroughs, they didn't quite work as intended, so from what I know you can only use Ada safely.
I was having this issue. I took the robot as a companion and his name went blank, so I dismissed him. Then I took him as a companion again and his name reappeared and I could customize him again. I don't know if this will work for everyone but I figure I should throw it out there anyway.

Yes, this bug seems to appear when you take a random robot as a companion. 1. I sent the robot to one of my robot settlement. That's the fastest solution for now. 2. If you need a robot companion, just use ADA.

It's a confirmed bug, and there's no fix. It happens from when you access Kellog's terminal to the end of the Memory Den main quest where you root through his memories (Dangerous Minds). You can also dismiss the robot, and wait until the end of Dangerous Minds to hire him again.

That robot that got renamed Automatron is stuck like that for the time being, and if you take any other robots with you during this time the same thing will happen to them and they will be stuck that way. However, if you finish Dangerous Minds, it's safe to start taking/renaming other robots again without their names being overridden. Nothing can fix the ones that have already had their names changed, though.

Presumably it's related to the fact that in that quest arc, companions ask you who you want to bring, and if you have a robot with you the dialogue option for them is "Automatron", and the name gets overridden.

I know its 3 years late but I found that if you manually dismiss the previous companion first it seems this nameless bug does not occur, always save before trying to bring a non ada automatron with you though of course.

Hey I know this is years later but i found the fix for this!! It turns out that the issue is that sometimes their name will dissapear for whatever reason, and because the name is gone they will no longer appear in the workbench to be edited. This can be solved by using a mod to rename them so that their name is no longer blank, and then you can see them in the bench again.

I used the mod "rename anything" which can be found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22105?tab=description

after installing simply click the bot with a blank name while in the console and run "setname test", then the bot should be renamed to test and appear in the workbench!
