Are Xbox mods on Bethsda.net PC compatible?
I've noticed that Beth net has become mostly console oriented, and most mods uploaded there are Xbox compatible. But are they Xbox exclusive? Do you need a different version for each platform? If so, it's kind of worrying that so many mods are already console exclusives.

A stupid question no doubt, but I haven't played the game with mods as of yet (I'd rather wait till all the DLCs are released).

Considering the only development platform for Mods is PC, and that mod developers are going to have to test on PC first, I don't think there's such thing as an "Xbox Exclusive" mod.

If you're wondering if the Betehsda.net mods work on PC, they do, but most people seem to not like the Bethesda.net manager. Personally I like it more than NMM but they're both pretty crap. Manual Install FTW.

They're not always compatable. You want to filter mods by PC only if you're installing on PC.

Also there's many Xbox exclusive mods mostly because Bethesda was supporting them with events to encourage Xbox Mods Development, with things like Contests and the like.

You also need to look at how many Mods are PC exclusive, especially if you go to Nexus instead. Most modders aren't even touching Bethesda.net unless they plan to port to Xbox.

Mods need to be repackaged for different platforms. The XBox One packages seem to involve less compression and be larger than the PC packages, so there are some Bethesda.net-hosted PC mods that need to be broken down into multiple ones for XBox users to pick-and-choose so they can stay w/n the size limits.

There's nothing stopping a modder from saying "XBox 4 LYFE" and refusing to upload PC versions of his mods (or PS4, when that functionality becomes available) for whatever reason, but it'd be mildly strange.

Some might keep the PC versions on the Nexus rather than bothering with two versions on Bethesda and one on Nexus, since you can mix-and-match if you're on PC and Bethesda.net's website functionality is pretty ass compared to Nexus (when it comes to bug tracking, leaving feedback, descriptions, user-uploaded images, ability to download outside the game, etc) so I could understand using Bethesda.net only for console access.

Thanks for the answers, but I'm getting some contradictory info. To clarify, I'm asking whether "Platform : Xbox One" on Bethesda.net assumes that PC is always compatible, or the mod ONLY works on Xbox and requires another version for PC.

Ignore what I said then. If anyone is wrong about mods, it's almost certainly me, lol.

It should work but is more likely needlessly big.

Bear in mind that the XBone -is- essentially a PC, albeit with some modifications. Unlike the PS4, which is a little bit -like- a PC, with a -lot- of modifications.

Bump?
Has anyone actually tried it?

I only use NMM for load order structuring, that's it. Otherwise, manual. It's just faster and less cancerous.

Your initial question is a bit confusing about what you're actually asking.

As a mod developer I can assert that there's no reason a mod published for use on an XBONE wouldn't work on a PC. That said there are some differences. Compression of the archives. Support for and compression of the textures. The mod and scripts themselves are generally identical. There may be some edge cases where some optimization could be done to better support the console but the same code should work for PC unless there's a bug in the game engine.

When actually publishing the mod to Bethesda.aids (I love ddproductions's name), in the creation kit you have to specify which platform to target. If you want to support all 3 you have to upload it 3 times. Due to this (and the horrible way the site works as well as the bugginess of uploads) some authors opt to publish the PC version elsewhere and only publish the console version there. The only reason a mod would be *console exclusive* would be because the author chose to make it so. There's no technical reason.

There are however, technical reasons a PC mod cannot be used on a console. A few are: High poly models, very large textures (generally higher than 1k starts to be probelematic), heavy scripting (gets to be very cpu intensive).

Then there's also the content restrictions of Bethesda.aids: No nudity, no children killing/abuse, etc. I can say I actually like the current choice of content rules. But that's my personal preference and getting off topic.

Since there's no way to download mods published to Bethesda.aids anything published for XBONE/PS4 cannot be downloaded without their respective console. You must use the in game management to do the downloading. The PC version can only access the PC published games.

Now, there's nothing preventing a mod author from being a "Console Elistist" (dog on you know who) and only publishing to XBONE or PS4 and not publishing a PC version. Even though there's no reason it wouldn't work. It would be a pretty ♥♥♥♥ move but it's their mod and they can do what they want with it.

how would one go about downloading an xbox mod from bethesda.net on a pc?
@Tindus
Start a new thread for your new question. This thread is eight years old and has a different topic from what you are asking.
