The Mannequins
Has it ever been explained why mannequins are everywhere in the world? There are probably more mannequins then there are actual people. It gets a little weird after awhile. :spazdunno:

I suspect the Teady Bears are at the bottom of it

Because Bethesda thought it was funny, and to ensure we got the joke, they spammed them everywhere. Like gnomes in F3 and FH, or teddy bears. They are like comedians who only know the same few jokes and repeat them. FOREVER.

It's an "I am legend" reference.

Someone over at Bethesda definitely has a teddy bear fetish.

I have seen a synth or two standing very still in a group of mannequins also.

It's an allegory meaning that Synths and Humans explode the same when I punch them.

It's 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse... there's limited radio, no books, limited newspapers if you can even read, and it's a daily struggle to avoid starvation. People are *BORED*.

People that bored are going to do odd things, and where you've got mannequins, teddy bears, and garden gnomes, well... they're going to be doing odd things too.

How many times you sniped a dummy?

On purpose or accidentally?

Because both, many times.

EDIT: And occasionally one of my NPCs has been the dummy and walked in front of a VATted shot.

Not as such. I just get tired of seeing the same joke repeated ad nauseum. It loses its effect. Like the dozens of collections of wooden blocks spelling 'Gary'.

It's been very good exposure therapy for my automatonophobia (yes, it's real thing). I hope in FO5 it'll be creepy ventriloquist dolls, because those actually freak me out much more than mannequins.

As someone with automatonophobia, I can tell you that the G1 and G2 synth did creep me out quite a bitwhen I started playing FO4, but they're worse than mannequins because they basically fulfill any automatonophobe's worst fear: they come "alive" and try to kill you.

After 400+ hours, I pretty much have a grip on my phobia, but I know exactly the location you're talking about (it's an unmarked loc, IIRC) and that seriously freaked me out the first time around.

I also still get chills thinking about clearing out University Point, and the synth that pops up from behind one of the desks. Yeah...that's going to a bit longer to fade from memory....

Do not mess with the teddy bears!! XD!!! I love the set ups of the teddy bears it gives me a giggle. My fav so far is the teddy on the toilet smoking a cigar and reading a paper..then there is is the two teddies playing checkers one with a cigar and one with the beer...They are great and just mad at Bes for not letting me set up teddies like that...

-.- And for the fact I love teddies irl...

And I think it is a throw off on I am legend...the mannequins. I find it funny when bad guys have them set up in defensive stance like there are more bad guys than what there really is...XD!
