Guide To Making Lighting And Other Electrical Items?
Does anyone know of somewhere to learn how all of this works? I want to put street lamps along the perimeter of the Red Rocket station and it looks like if I can get a conduit close enough I could light them up but I still have to run wire from a generator somewhere to the conduit, right? How can you do that without making things look horribly ugly and cheap?

use the power pylons instead of the conduits maybe?

Well technically a pylon is a conduit, it's only useful for conducing power from long distances using fusion generator... because it's ugly to see dozens of those around your settlement

But if you want to make a perimeter of lights you should put a generator somewhere and conduit the main power from there, then use the small wall conduits every 5-7 meters (from inside the perimeter) and put the lights on the outside or on the top of the wall (that's for 0 power lights) ...

A screenshot would help to see what kind of walls you got though

If you have to put lamps that require 1 power you have to do almost the same, put a fusion generator somewhere less visible and after that pylon just connect the lamps with each other and the power will flow through them

You can't have a power item that requires 1 or more to have power out of nowhere like some light bulbs.

I hope it was kinda clear what i tried to explain lol

I was hoping to not have to put up walls. My idea was to put streetlamps every few feet around the Red Rocket lot on the side that faces the road. I thought walls would make it too ugly but maybe I can't get away with not having walls. I also didn't really want a generator out there either. I guess that I have to have something to attach the conduit(s) to so I might have to wall in the whole area. How do people put streetlights in Sanctuary without having cables and generators everywhere? I'm not really sure how to use power pylons, either.

Then just go with my second option: generator, pylon, lamp, lamp, lamp, lamp, etc.

The pylon is there in case you need to attach other items to the generator, do as I said above and it should work

You check every light and if it just says "requires power" with no number, it means you can light it up without wires (but you still need a conduit)

If it says "requires 1 power" it means it has to be wired, simple as that

if you have the wasteland workshop DLC, then Oil Lamps is an option if ya don't want to run wires, its in the decorations / misc section of the build menu.

this

actually they look nicer for a sort of entrance in your settlement and require no power

the street lights are power conduits too. I just ran a wire from one to the next one.
