They didn't mention ANYTHING in the patch notes except fixing the in-game mod menu.
But so far, ALL of the containers I've been looting on a regular basis haven't respawned ANYTHING, I used to be able to just leave the cell and come back, and all containers would just respawn items.
No, I'm talking containers endlessly respawning items, Power Armor restting etc.
I just got a set of power armor and stripped off all the pieces, I'm going to fast travel somewhere and come back.
If the cell reset bug hasn't been fixed, then I should come back to a full set of power armor with all the pieces back on it.
If it HAS been fixed, I should come back to just a stripped frame
However I have not had a single container in a settlement reset that had items in it. I know non-settlement cells will reset non-workbench type containers. I stuffed some crap into the medkit at Bedford Station while I carried stuff to my settlement. When I came back the cell reset wiht a respawn and the stuff in the continaer was gone. Yet if you leave the crap on the ground it stays, go figure, lol.
The issue comes not from the cells resetting, but because the item IDs are not flagged as persistent (since items created in world, not placed in the CK or GECK do not have a fixed ID). Since the ID is not flagged as persistent, the game may re-assign that ID to another thing which has just been spawned, or just cleaned up as part of a process to free up memory. This is why, in the short term, it's not much of a problem, but in the long term it can still occur, especially in cases where you are continuously needing new things spawned... such as building or exploring areas that were recently respawned.
Good theory, but totally wrong. The reusing id codes is definitely a well thought theory. However you are forgeting people are losing stuff that have unique id codes to the cell reset bugs.
The cell reset bug occurred when people first started making mods that did anything with modding settlements. It did something to the cells the settlements were in to change them from the non-resting type to the standard reseting type. Eventually the modders figured how how to create the mod without it containing the "bug" anymore. So when the bug occured it would literally wipe out the inventory of all containers (including power armor.)
The problem is once your game is infected with the cell reset bug it remains infected. Even if you remove the mod yoour game will still have the cell reset bug. You basically have to flush all your INI and ESM files and revalidate the game in order to remove the issue (then do not install mods that create the cell reset bug.)
Bethesda admitted that the cell reset bug was a bug as people WITHOUT mods have experienced it, and Bethesda even said that they are "Working on it".
I was curious if they had fixed it, because in a game where I was getting unlimited items respawning in containers left in sanctuary, they are no longer veritable cornucopias of unlimited ammo, bobby pins, and other random things, and now just stay empty after being looted.
Just like that small cooler at the end of the dock right near Sanctuary.
It used to refill right after looting it, returning to Sanctuary, and turning right around, going back to it and looting it again and again and again.
Now it stays empty.
Then I went to Starlight Drive-in to do some building there, when I got back, the power armor was still just a frame, with the cell reset bug, the power armor should've reset and I would've come back to a full suit of power armor again.
That is a different cell reset bug. Those are areas outside settlements. Bedford Station and Wicked Shipping both have that reset bug. Stuff spawning in empty containers in a settlement is normal behavior.
The cell reset bug you see people complain about losing their power armor to is one that affects settlement cells caused by using buggy settlement mods. Losing all your items in a container because the game overwrote the contents with a new loot spawn for it was the cell reset issue
For example people would bring a X-01 power armor frame to Sanctuary then it would get the cell reset bug and generate new pieces, the problem being the Sanctuary area cells are limited to T-45 power armor for spawns.
Some of the mods also admitted to causing a cell reset bug as a side effect to them editing settlement cells. Spring Cleaning even advertises a newer version that got rid of the cell reset bug for settlements.
The developers most likely took a short cut and only fixed settlement cells.
That particular cell respawns for some reason
In my current game there are over 30 red bandanas and 30 welding goggles in the dresser
The bigger question for me is, what else does the same? I just fired up a brand new formated VM and tried it out again, that one house 100% respawns now on 1.7.22. If I had some way of knowing that was the only cell that does this, I'd happly skip that house from now on. What's even more frustrating is that when I install the unoffical patch mod (only), I'm getting other areas with the cell reset bug, mainly, the Ranger Cabin.
I think I'm done for a few months, again, as, last time I started ignoring that house, but, after 20 hours in had items starting to respawn in my main settlement, driving me crazy and questioning if I ever cleared them out in the first place.
