Railway spikes

Anyone know where to find large quantums of railway spikes? They are rarely in ammo containers and merchant always have few of them as well.

Buying is the only way to get them. Just run around the map between different merchants

Not true. You can find them here or there, but they are pretty rare. Buying them is still the best way to get a usable supply. Just buy them whenever you see them in a merchant's inventory.

Not a large quantity, but run the railroad tracks from north to south and inspect any rail cars you can easily access. There's a small pile next to a skeleton in one of them.

EDIT: Apparently they're also on utility protectrons (the ones with the nail guns). That's off Fallout Wiki... I will be back in a while with some location info.

EDIT EDIT: Also just caught this on the wiki:

Find a construction protectron, as he fires at you, you can harvest his rail spikes from the surface he hits.

To be honest. When i first got the cyromater (the freezing thrower) i was finding ammo here and there around plus using scrounger perk helped me even more.

That's the same for railway rifle. Once you first get it either by railroad or finding it on a specific location. You will find ammo for it by some sort of discovery unlock when you have it. Otherwise add two ranks on scrounger and it should show up random ammo for you to gather.

Every now and then I find them in train cars but its not a large amount.......best chances of getting them is merchants. If fallout 4 was a mmo I waould give you the 10 thousand that I have but I cant. Yes I no I am a haorder when it come to this game but I dont care.

As for finding spikes laying around.... the boxcar and the shelter at Big John's Salvage appear to be all you get.

If you have the manufactering DLC you can make them with steel and lead.

If u have automatron, you can use eyebot pods to get them.

I dont believe you can make them with the ammunition plant from the contraptions dlc (just checked the wiki and its says u cant, but wiki's areint always right)
