Has anyone actually looked at a map of Boston?
After all this time, I finally looked at Boston on Google Maps and compared it to FO4 Boston. They got some of the stuff correct, but geographically, they messed up a bit. The got Castle Island Park and Spectacle Island and some buildings in there too that are landmarks. My deal is the hills and mountains in FO4. Why put them in?
Another thing I was looking for was anything that would be Far Harbor. Well, I found tiny island with what appears to be a man made road to it. The main road in Harbor Ave so that might be it.
With that, I don't understand why they put the geography as very incorrect, but left great landmarks. Was there a giant earthquake following the great war that shifted the plates? Anyways, I was just wondering.

Isn't it against the law for companies to make exact replicas of cities?

Sometimes playability and level/world design is prioritized over realism and historical/architectural accuracy. I imagine it would have cost far more to have planned the world to be very similar to how Boston really is.

I guess you could also consider the fact that since Fallout is set in an alternate universe, cities could have been built differently from how they are in our universe.

Far Harbor would likely be Bar Harbor, Maine, one of the coastal islands. I love the "Impression" of New England. I would love to see more expansions or mods developing the surrounding area.

It's not that big of a deal. I live in Vegas, and my old high school wasn't even in New Vegas

Dammit, now i have to google earth! lol
You can not copy a city because it is illeagal to show crap like oil refieries, train depots, water towers and many other things.

GTA 5 isn't an exact copy of wherever that is - Los Angeles or something.

Plenty of people have made the comparisons
The landmarks are all there, the library, state house, etc.
But the streets aren't perfect and some have ben removed completely or new ones added in.
So it's close-ish

Exactly, and it's not 'our' Boston anyway. The timeline diverges in the mid 1940's, so you get different versions of places. No Hancock tower, the Combat Zone isn't where it was, No Zakim Memorial Bridge etc, etc.

...and the nukes fell in the 2070's That is a LOT of time for roads to get put in different places and buildings to disappear or be replaced with something else. Hell...there could have been yet another Great Boston Fire (how many would that make...4?) that wiped out huge swathes of historic buildings which were then replaced with modern buildings with plaques on them describing the originals (and yes...there are such plaques everwhere in the game...you can't read them though.)

I think that Paul Revere statue is in the wrong place, too? I thought I came across a picture that showed it someplace other than where it is in game?

And I thought that where Sanctuary is - where that Minuteman statue is - is some sort of park.

And I'll go with Alternate Universe. I bet they even spell Manhattan with one "T" there.
