Is there a way to play 1920x1080 on a 4K monitor?
My system struggles to play this game in the city areas.

4790k, 16GB DDR3, x2 GTX 980s in SLI.

I'm running more mods now so I wanted to turn it back a bit.

that's the monitor, and now it's not really for gaming I use it for editing in MC,PP and AE. Before I get flamed on it I suspect.

I'm already using the widescreen fixes, and mods and it's great and all even in Power Armor. I just need to turn down the resolution.

If I go through the launcher it messes everything up with the scaling.

If your video card is NVIDIA,you can use INVIDIA Control Panel and set custom Resolutions. And if you use AMD, you should be able to set custom resolution through Catalysis

this is why I use a 1080p monitor, I knew right away that 4K was gonna be a struggle on games

I have 4k monitor but I always have it at 1080p, I tried it at 4k on skyrim but it's not much better quality really than 1080p, I think you can just change resolution with Windows.

I'm actually surprised that people choose to run 1080p on a 4K monitor, I thought on LCD if ya don't run at the native resolution it gets blurry

Yep I think that is the issue the op is getting.

its not just the GPU, its also how badly optimized a game is, and 4K on top of that makes it worse

Not aimed at the OP as I read the post, but yeah same. For me framerate > than res so I went 1080 @ 144Hz. I considered 1440p but as I use Steak streaming a lot, 1080p seemed a more sensible. No regrets as yet!

Back to the question though, you should be able to either leave the desktop res at 4k and dial down the game or else dial the desktop and game down (game may even detect the new res and run at 1080p? Either way, can't see it looking too nice? Pretty ironic having a 4k monitor then having it look all blurry as you need to run it at 1080 when it's presumably modded to look nice :D

You seem to have it sorted, but for anyone else thinking about using a lower resolution, you'll get substantially better results if you use a lower resolution that divides evenly into your native (full) resolution.

For example, 1920x1080 (1080p) is exactly half the width and height of 3840x2160, which is one of the 4k standard (the one normally used for monitors). It looks better because every pixel of the lower resolution maps perfectly to 4 pixels of the 4k screen. Something in the middle will likely look worse because the pixels don't map evenly, and give you a blurry effect.

aka 16:9 aspect ratio for 1080p.

I did not know that! Good to know. Cheers!

nope not at all, is just asking a question. You clearly didnt' read anything.

If I go through the launcher it messes everything up with the scaling.p

I did read, you said it messes everything up with the scaling, which generally would mean it does not look right, some people would say blurring would be "messed up".

Okay for you it does not blur, but we did not know that from just your"it messes everything up" description.

anyways moving on. I adjusted the settings in the Fallout4prefs? to 1920x1080 runs fine and look fine.

Some of you lack reading the whole thread to see what is going on, it's like you read that last few comments and then decided to post a comment.

Some of you also cannot describe your issue properly, its like you read their last few comments and instead of simply stating its not blurry, at which point they could have suggested other things, you decided to berate them, simply as they made a wrong assumption, based on your lack of a proper description of the issue.

Anyways moving on, glad you got it fixed.

When you initially replied it was not that blurry on the first page, I was posting at the same time, (hence only a few mins apart) so I did not see your answer. Again all you had to do was simply correct their/my assumptions, instead you went off on one and berated people for trying to help instead of simply pointling out where they were wrong.

At no point have I looked stupid, but you have certainly come across as incredibly rude.
