A little question about finch Farm
I recently got finch farm as a settlement and decided to build on top of the overpass for the first time but i am wondering if settlers can die if they wander in the wrong direction and fall from the bridge? I can certainly build wall all around the little town i'm planning up there, but i would like to save some building space if possible (and try to have something that don't look like a big box from afar).
I want to add some scavenging station to have some settler walk around town all day but if it is to have them fall to their death someday, it make it less tempting to do.

no they won't die from anything unless it's your own bullets.

Settlers are marked as protected
Which means only the player can kill them
I was asking because i never seen settler fall from someplace that high and i lost some during some attack i didnt responded to and that one time one decided to steal a stored missile launcher during a raid.

you can try that by making few stairs and order them to go up, then remove the stairs and you will see
short of killing them myself the one times they have ever died is when the game tells me a settlement is under attack and i cant always go too help them and then i run out of time too do said objective.....

Doesn't explain lack of settlers, they shouldn't vanish after an attack, only equipment is supposed to be damaged.

in a thousand hours of play i never lost settlers but recently i've begun to lost some during attack i don't respond too. Lost a bartender and some farmer that way...
Maybe a patch added a higher chance to loose someone to make it more ''urgent'' to go help your settlements, i do not know.

And if settler are immune to gruesome death by fall damage, then i can continue my work on New Arefu with peace in mind.

This time there should be a lack of cannibals/vampires buuut i dont know if ya runnin that kinda build
My little backstory for this settlement is a former resident from arefu decided to come back after things settled down but when he learned that the family who now protect the town are cannibal decided to leave for good and founded his own city. He settled down at the finch farm's overpass and the new city pride himself of having the best medical facility and being one of the most secure city in the entire commonwealth.

But after taking a look at the neighborhood, i think its false advertisement to a point. You have a super mutant camp to the south, the forged holed up to the north, a gunner base to the north-east and to the east is the sea,so mirelurks...

but hey, at least you not trusting cannibal to watch over you during the night....

Some settlers die from falling, but tis the random ones. and if you dont put beds chairs or other crap they will try to use, they will super rarely go up.
If you lose a settler in an attack i think the game give you a new one very quickly. Its about your stats.

i planned to let the finch family on the ground tending the crop inside a walled enclave and put everything else, shops, barber chair, scavenging station etc. upstair inside the proper city limit.
I guess the ones working on scavenging station are more at risk of falling down since they wander everywhere and the shopkeeper are more safe because they stay idle in a corner on their shop table.
But judging by how fast deacon get up top when i leave the construction mode, i guess other npc would have no problem using my staircase tower to go up and down. (unless during a panic a.k.a. raider attack, then i'm not sure...)

I've built a nice structure all the way up which leads to the top, and I've never seen any settler go up before. Maybe because all their assigned jobs are on ground level, but even when they've finished working they hang out at the bar and go to bed without ever stepping foot up the stairs. They go as high as where the beds are, then come back down again. Companions like Deacon are different because they follow you if you're heading up.
