As an aside, as someone already mentioned folders have no weight and serve no purpose - I have been collecting them for a long time now just because I can. Same with napkins, although they are more rare.
Folders, burned magazines, subway tokens are *money*. They weigh nothing and are worth 1 cap. They are for all purposes, caps. Valdacil's Sorting mod has perceived this and places these items among the valuables.

i don't think much of it it is useless, unless we are talking about cork. There are items that i find i never run out of: plastic, rubber, and cloth. But this stuff all has value. I run out of oil, glass, and steel the most. A lot of the steel items you find as scrap weigh 3 or 4 pounds but give only 1 steel. So i tend to look at the steel items in world very closely before bringing it with me.

...unless we are talking about cork..
cork, rubber, leather, all very much needed when creating robots. (gaskets I guess) and for modding weapons and armor.

i have not done automatron yet, so i can speak to that experience. I use to make rubber mats to level up quickly, until that one time i did it and tried to make an elevator or turret. By golly, can't do it without rubber. For my game, cork is useless. As is leather. Leather is so useless to me that i forgot to mention it. Besides, you get so much leather off of dead enemies that it is never in short supply.

oh, short supply items, My avat always short of fiber optics, and almost nowhere to buy it. gold too.

I'm always running low on cork
So few places to find it.

What about plastic? Apparently it is used for weapon upgrades (which ones?)

Also unlike other people I don't actually make jet for money. Would rather be exploring the world instead.

Fiber optics - Jamaica Plain tripwire hallway. Just reset the tripwires by pressing the button at the end of the hallway.

i have never had a problem finding plastic. For a while, i was dangerously low on gears. Plastic? Once you run into Synths, your plastic problems are over. Just break up all those near uselss pistols they drop or their lower value armor.

This is why I don't look for it. Also base synth armor can be scrapped for plastic regardless of your Scrapper rank.

Scrap every base Raider/Metal/Robot/Combat armor. Provides endless amounts of steel as there are raiders everywhere.
