Hover your cursor over the required materials, scroll down. It's very cheeky with this and doesnt make it very clear. If you've already done this and Im stating the obvious then idk

Turns out I need Gunslinger rank 4, because that has something to do with the crafting and maintaining of weapons, wtf Beth? lol :steamfacepalm:

indeed the perks are way off I mean you can upgrade every weapon with rank 4 gunsmith however the f... with NW weapons I mean the AK requires commando and some other perk .... o yes really what does have commando have to do with upgrading a weapon?

Dumb ideas are dumb, I am really disappointed that there's not a single new perk with any DLC aswell (So far for me, haven't touched far harbour much yet, doing NW first). Compare this to Dragonborn or Dawnguard, one is clearly better and one is clearly not :P

I suppose they're assuming that Commando covers broader knowledge of automatic weapons (and some of the other modifications that would relate to them).

It's just weird that they decided to split it up this way for the handmade rifle after having the requirements for modding every other weapon based on the appropriate crafting perks.

That depends on what you mean. There are a few new perks that can be obtained in-game in various ways in both Far Harbour and Nuka World, and both of those DLCs likewise add a new buyable rank in one perk for all the different SPECIAL attributes.

Ah, I obviously haven't progressed far enough in either then. My mistake.

The SPECIAL perk ranks should be available immediately if you have the DLC installed, but you might not notice them since they aren't directly announced. For example, with Far Harbour installed there should now be a fifth rank for Strong Back and with Nuka World installed there should also be a third rank for Steady Aim (those being the extra ranks added to Strength perks).

Other perks turn up for things like reaching maximum companion affinity, collecting magazines, and completing a few particular quests; the normal sort of stuff for extra perks.

all new nuka world gear is like that...Pickpocket 2 needed for ultra-light armor, big leagues 2 to add bayonet. and so on

It's more about the inconsistency between the base game earlier dlc and NW
VJ Sep 16, 2016 @ 6:46am
Oh. I got the revolver from a legendary enemy and thought it was from a mod because it required gunslinger to upgrade instead of gun nut.

Pretty sure you need both the perks.
