Gatorclaw respawning?

Anyone ever figure out how to respawn these things with that cloner? If you were like me and rushed through the text when turning it back on for fun, you'll notice later that no gatorclaws spawn, only the gazelles. The problem comes when you can't change the thing you want to clone unless the incubation process is done, which seems like never. Personally, I've waited outside the compound for a good week and whatever it is seems to still be incubating. These gazelles are no challenge at all...

Turning the clone machine back on just goes back to spawning Gazelles. The things that the scientist was using as his food source. Gatorclaw is no longer an option after you turn that off. I am not entirely sure why.
