Indexers won't move in the first "Best Left Forgotten" memory sequence for Far Harbor
Hello troubleshooters/fellow troubled people,

I just got around to playing Far Harbor for the first time and I'm experiencing a rather infuriating bug involving the "Best Left Forgotten" quest. I literally just got into the first memory and started building the paths for the indexers to follow, except there's just a couple of small problems.
1. The indexers get to the start of the first gap and they stop, they don't move at all regardless of whether or not a path has been built. One of the indexers will then teleport (WTF?) past the first two gaps and get stuck on the third, and once I was lucky enough to have one of the indexers teleport to the fourth and final gap where it then stops.
2. Some of the indexers who get stuck at the first gap seem to decide: "Well there's clearly not a bridge here, even though there is, so lets just go back to the spawn point and hide against the wall for the rest of eternity ok guys?" I've tried the rather tedious and completely useless method of blocking off the spawn point, or if any are already against the wall, using the blocks to push them off of the wall. Those who don't get stuck in mid-air just keep trying to go back to the spawn point. Absolutely, f***ing, useless.

So once again I must ask the community, is there a fix that doesn't involve just console commanding my way through the mission (I've heard that's bugged as well)? So far I've checked a whole bunch of similar posts, but they usually just involve the indexers getting stuck at the orange destination circle, none of which has a concrete solution or even any helpful advice. I'll try verifying the cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the dlc and all that but I can't say I'm optimistic.

I know just about everyone hates the damn quest, but for those of us unlucky enough to be eternally stuck doing it because of bugs, its even worse. Any help is much appreciated folks, thanks for your time!

Console command killall to respawn them, Maybe that will work?

Walk on them. It may take a few minutes. Scrapping and rebuilding the blocks spanning a gap may help too, or just shifting them around, but playing "stomp the bug" was the most successful way of getting them going when I played it last.

I've tried to nudge them and they don't move (surprise, surprise). As a result, I don't think that they behave like normal npcs, If dropping out of the simulation and then re-entering it, which resets the indexers anyways, doesn't work, I'm not sure that using a kill command will make much of a difference. I'll give it try though, an interesting suggestion. As for scrapping and rebuilding the blocks, no dice. Thanks for the suggestions though!

i ran into that also on a couple of levels, had to exit and restart that level to get them moving like they're supposed to.

Do you mean that you just exited the simulation and then re-entered again? If so I did try that multiple times with no difference. Even if one of the indexers makes it to the last gap where you need to make a bridge it still won't cross it. I'm only on the first memory so I don't know if it occurs on others, but according to the quest's wiki page it is a game-breaking bug with no concrete solution as of yet. I'm hoping that it will only effect this particular file and not my others. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just finished that yesterday and encountered the same issue. Exiting the sim, saving, exit to desktop and re-launching the game worked for me. IDK if you're running a modded game but theres a mod on Nexus that gets you past that quest completely. Here's the link:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14077/?

The above "mod" is just a simple bat file. You could type in the console commands directly if you want.

I am running mods on my game. I've heard of mods causing issues with Far Harbor, but from what I had seen it was limited to game crashing. I'll give the mod a try if I can't fix it. Thank you for the suggestion!

If you made a one block bridge they will get stuck.

Aside from the fact that this post is over a year old, and has long since been dealt with thanks to the aforementioned mod, I'm not entirely sure that you read the full post. They weren't getting stuck on the bridge, they wouldn't even cross it, as though it wasn't there. Regardless, case closed, thanks for the input. FYI, they can cross a one block bridge, just apparently not in this situation. No further comments please, unless you actually need help solving this problem.

Thank you.

You only need to do the first puzzle to continue the quest. The rest are optional.

tilde key then "set timescale to 30" or above will often give NPCs a little jolt.

I MADE THE 'SHORTEST' ROUTE AVAILABLE, FILLING UP THE GAPS CLOSEST TO THE CENTER OF THE ROOM, NOT THE CENTER OF THE PATH.
